I recently picked up a brand new evo 8 block for my new build. However the engine number is nothing that I have ever came across, it just says R350 where usually is 2 letters and 4 numbers. If anyone has something to add please let me know. Not that I am worried though.
Hey, that "R350" stamping on your new Evo 8 4G63 block is most likely a batch or production run code from the factory (or the supplier if it's a replacement block). Normal Evo engine serial numbers are usually two letters + four numbers, but shorter run/batch codes like this aren't uncommon on bare blocks or service replacements — it doesn't indicate anything wrong or non-genuine. As long as the casting marks, main caps, and overall quality look correct, you're good to go for the build. If you're still concerned, check the block for proper 4G63 identification numbers on the side or pass a magnet test on the iron block. Congrats on the fresh block!
Thank you for your wishes, I am aware about the proper engine codes. The car is already up and running, made 387 whp on 98 octane fuel and 60kg of torque (stock evo 9 turbo) which is very very nice. I have an appointment in the local road transport department next month to change the engine number on my owner's title, hopefully the will accept it.
