Tranny question

I was looking under the car a few days ago and noticed a few drops of oil under the tranny. Well I found a leak in a gasket that has a black plate on the bottom of the tranny. Im not the type of person to leave my car at a dealership so others can drive it. Is there anything that will fall out if I tyake this plate off, besides the gear oil?

Hi Dryad001, There are two black plates like you describe under the car. One is on the tranny near the driver's side wheel and the other is on the transfer case that houses the front and center differentials near where the exhaust pipe goes under the oil pan.

You should be able to remove and re-install the plates without parts "jumping out" at you, but you should probably drain the the appropriate fluid before removing the plate. From the manual it looks like they are sealed only with sealant and don't use gaskets. As per the manual, don't let oil contact the newly formed seals for at least an hour. I would also double check that against the directions of whatever sealing compound you use. The manual lists the torque spec as 61 inch pounds or 6.9 nm.

Probably alot more information than you needed...

is it from the black plate as well? I had a leak there a while ago and I just used RTV to fix it. If its at the bell housing where is it dripping from?

The Bottem by the inspection plate between the bell housing and engine . The issue is I can see oil around the breathers on top so it seems the oil has hit the clutch and has spun around .
