If you all are really interested in knowing what is going on with your oil, go here -> http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ - you can get an oil analysis performed and learn exactly what kind of shape your engine and your oil are in. FWIW, I'd follow the severe service interval...

non-USA oil

does anybody know if mitsubishi recommends 10w-30 M1 as the only choice or WT of oil outside the U.S.A. Maybe this is a EPA mandate thing? I live in the desert and it gets 100Deg/F plus most of the summer months.

No they probably are talking about a drain back valve.

Used oil is far more lubricative then new oil. The problem is it gets dirty and loses it's additives. Synthetic oil is far more likely to get dirty then conventional, it has the tendancy to effectively trap all the dirt in the engine.
We change oil because it gets contaminated and loses it's additives over time.
The only reason it is in the car is because of the turbo and synthetic is more temperatrue resistant before it starts to break down and burn.

I use the M-1 filters. You can see the spring for the anti-drain back.

Question Question

I was readin the warrenty manual for my evo.. and it says that The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII requires the use of fully synthetic Sl/GF-3 10W-30 motor oil... in that case, since its REQUIRED by mitsubishi that we all have 2 use that.. which is mobile 1 by the way,and when i was picking up the car from the dealer they said that u have 2 use mobile one or it voids the warrenty.., so...... dont they have 2 give it 2 u for free under the Magnusson-Moss warrenty Act which says..

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))

This federal law regulates warranties for the protection of consumers. The essence of this law concerning aftermarket auto parts is that a vehicle manufacturer may not condition a written or implied warranty on the consumers using parts or services which are identified by brand, trade, or corporate name (such as the vehicle makers brand) unless the parts or service are provided free of charge. The law means that the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty. However, the law's protection does not extend to aftermarket parts in situations where such parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty. Further, consumers are advised to be aware of any specific terms or conditions stated in the warranty which may result in its being voided. The law states in relevant part:
“No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name....” (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)).

and Mobile is a brand of engine oil... dont they have 2 give it for free??? ask ur dealers... while I interogate mine....

Vtex: Mobile 1 is recomended, any oil that meets the spec. is ok. I change mine according to the severe schedule but I will change it anytime it smells odd or when I can no longer see my dip stick when I check the level. Remember that the oil in our cars has to take a lot of heat as it is used to cool the pistons and is crucial to the non BB turbo. I used Castrol full syn. last oil change because it it lighter than Mobile 1 in color and I wanted to observe how long it takes for the oil to load up with carbon. The factory recomendations are not intendded for cars used in racing but I am sure all of you who do race know that.

You'll feel it on your butt dyno how smooth it is.
same here, Royal Purple 10-30W and OEM oil filter. change it every 3k miles.

ps: i think the royal purple really does make a different. (or is it just my imaginations)
