Post Oil Change

Time for my first oil change. I was just wondering what oil everyone puts in thier evo's and how often it gets changed. My dealer said every 7500 miles but I find that hard to believe. I am at 3500 now. Also does anyone do it them selves or do they have it done. If so who does it.

5,000 miles and I think that's on the safe side. Porsche recomend 15,000 with Mobil 1 Synth.

I actually use the 5,000 mile marker because it's easy to remember and the time to rotate the tires.

15000 miles thats crazy is that for their turbo charged cars too? I wonder if porsche turbos use the engine oil or not and if that has any effect on it.

I have been changing mine at 3000 miles because I have a heavy foot. At 3000, the oil is really dark looking when it is draining from the oil pan. Also, I have just used up my last Mitsu oil filter (the good one) now I have to either choose between Mobil or the K&N. Hmmm...

It cost about $25-30 to change oil (mobil 1) + filter (OEM) + crush washer (OEM) (DIY). It will cost $1000+ to fix a broken turbo or engine.

I vote to spend the extra $30 to prevent $1000+ fix cost for every 3000+ miles.

I'm about ready to do my second change @ 6k miles. Mobil 1 Filter (m1-104) and Mobil 1 oil. I do lots of stop and go driving, along with constant hills, which is harder on the oil. Also, I would be concerned about going longer as my oil has a very strong gas odor, which I would think could break down the oil prematurely.

Oil is cheap, don't feel bad about paying for every 3k to change it, your only saving yourself from more costly repairs in the long-term. I believe the manual calls for 3750 on a Severe Driving cycle...I personally believe the manual is pretty generic and should have been specially written to address the EVO needs on terms of maintenance.

I voted 3000 because that is an OUTSIDE number. In other words, if I were to wait the longest possible amount of time, it would be 3000; but I highly suggest you do it a little more often if you can. It's a very simple thing and does miracle for engine longevity. I very rarely go more than about 2500 miles between changes.

Also, make sure to mark each oil change in your Owner's Manual, as well as save all receipts for oil filters and oil. I also highly recommend using OEM filters and Mobil 1 (since it's what the dealer would use).

I change mine every 3k. I thought the dealer says to change every 5k and not 7500? (it says it in the manual too) I use Mobil 1 and K&N oil filter. Its only $30 dollar every 3k miles and on the 3rd oil change its around $70 for the oil change, tranny fluids and etc.

yeah for most conditions even with some hard driving... i say 4000 is a good shot... 3000 is abit quick for synthetic oil and 5000 makes some conservative people uneasy..

I did my first oil change at 1000 miles right after the break in and will do the 2nd one at 4500 but then depending on how I'll drive it, will probably extend the interval to 5000.
