loud drivetrain whine

my evo is making some loud, high pitched drivetrain whine right now. it makes it while moving applying power, driving at the same speed, or driving with the clutch pressed in and the car in nuetral. the sound goes away if i take my foot off the gas and coast with the car in gear. it make the noise from any speed.

i just installed a buschur stage 3, dyno flash, exceedy clutch, coilovers, ect. i think it probably is the clutch, but is everyone elses exceedy clutch so loud? or is it something else.

Transfer case, most likely. The dealer will blame the failure on the clutch

You got lucky. Most people that have had the failing transfer cases usually are blamed by their aftermarket clutch which put more stress on the tcase.

what exactly goes wrong with the transfer case, do bearing die, does the case split, does it chew up the gears? instead of just saying it failed, lets discuss what actually happens to the cases. i will go search as well.

if just the bearings go bad, that is hardly a reason to replace the whole case. who sells rebuild kits, or bearing kits? also, does anyone rebuild them with better parts, or sell aftermarket cases. i saw the turbo trix thread, but they didn't seem to be building them yet.

i think i would like to go the path of simply replacing the offending bearings.
