Question Tach or shift light install issues / Help

So, I order a shift light from http://www.raptorperformance.com/ .

Finally its sat, and I have some time to kill.

3 wires, not really rocket science.

Connect pwr/ gnd/ tac signal (ping 89 on the ECU) - http://www.roadraceengineering.com/e...-ecuwiring.htm

no go, shift light never kicks in (had it set for 2500RPM or something just to test)

check the shift light settings, setup 1000(2) 100(5) for a 2 cyl ( 2 coils )
then I tried a 1 cyl , 4 cyl, 8 cyl .. ( hahahaha)

No go, no shift light

also tried ECU pin 58 for tach signal.

Sound like a bad shift light ? all POST's show the light is okay.

Thanks

Make sure you count each pin and not each wire. I made a mistake like that before and couldnt figure it out till I recounted each pin and bam it worked

I went directly to the one of the wires that plugs to a coil. If you're interested in hooking it up that way let me know and i'll go and lift the coil cover and check which wire it was....

I'm not sure what pin it is (I was at the time), but my turbo timer is tapped in to the crank position sensor. One of the turbo timer threads discusses the issue (this one, I think: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...+timer+install).

no, thanks a lot. I'm thinking either this shiftlight isn't compatible w/ the ECU signal (that would be ****ing stupid) or the light is bad.

yeah, it seems like it would work using the RPM signal, but I dont know, I dont have a shift light, but the SAFC reads rpm off of that wire fine. Hmmmm.

yea, I used a multimeter on wire 58 and 89 (hahahah dunno what I was really looking for) .. seemed like 58 had less of a voltage increase then 89, but neither of them work w/ the tach

Yes. I don't see how the light is going to work with the ecu pin. Exactly what three wires does the shift light have? (what's the description on the operating instructions?).

On the install instructions for other vehicles the tach lead gets attached to X pin on the ECU.

(3) Wires - pwr, ground, rmp
