Just got HKS'ed Today!

Well, folks, I finally got tired of being bone stock, and with the Dynoflash thing coming up in July, I decided to do some mods...

I went to Racing Zone Auto House in Tampa, and they hooked me up with the following mods:

HKS Racing Suction Intake
HKS SSQV Blowoff Valve
HKS Downpipe
HKS 30th Anniversary Exhaust

Man, I can really hear the turbo now and the SSQV is loud as hell! The SSQV likes to flutter under low boost/part throttle shifts...I hear that this is normal, though, and nothing to worry about. The car pulls nice and strong all the way up now!

The 30th Anniversary exhaust is sweet...perfect fit...the sound is killer!

When I stopped for gas, I noticed some wisps of smoke coming from the tailpipe, which I presume was just the factory protectant oil burning off from the new exhaust pipes (it smelled like it). If this is not normal, please tell me!

I'm going back next week to get a Random Cat and a Walbro, then I'll be ready for Al on July 9th!

From What i understand this is from the mods (mainly the intake and exhaust). You have changed the a/f ratio by installing these mods. So now you are running what they call "rich"(is that right or is it lean), it will go away/less prevalant when you get dynoflased. Im still learning about alot of this stuff i have had mustangs and camaros and i just put a bunch of crap on them and hoped i was fast. now i am trying to learn all the ins and outs of tuning.

Please correct me if im wrong.

BTW...the engine was not running when I noticed the wisps of smoke, so I really think it was just some protectant burning off of the new exhaust. It makes no smoke when I'm driving, as far as I can tell...

You are correct about the new exhaust parts burning off the protective coating- perfectly normal. You bov shouldn't be fluttering though. Does the SSQV have different springs you can use to "tune" it?

mostlikely its the packing burning if it came from the tip... it will take several hundred miles to get the full effect of the sound... remember that can is jsut filled with fiberglass and crap to make it quiet...

WOW congrates!! i love HKS parts!! I have a HKS Racing Suction Kit, HKS SS Downpipe, HKS Carbon-Ti exhaust, HKS type 1 turbo timer, HKS Decals, and HKS Power's license plate cover...

When i got my exhaust..i also had the smoke and the smell..I thought it was something bad but i guess its the exhaust breaking in..I THINK...dont worry bout it..it will eventually go away after a few miles...but if it doesnt..i recommend you checking the piping..

how much is AL asking for the dynoflashing?

Are you sure about the fluttering??? I read an old thread from this site that said the fluttering under low boost (around 3-4K RPM shifts) is normal with the SSQV...under high boost (hard acceleration) it blows off normally, and is loud as hell, too!

I think it's gonna be $495, but I don't know if there are any spots left...here's the thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=82506

are you stalling with the hks bov....in my experience I would stall between shifts while slowing down or between shifts during half throttle-mid boost.....drivability was crap...needless to say i went back to stock bov

Nope...no problems at all...but I have the recirc kit...if you VTA, you'll have stalling problems...you gotta recirc if you are running the stock MAF...

to solve that problem you can either get a recirculation kit or just dont ride the clutch so much...that causes it to stall...less clutch more brake....had the same problem myself and u just have to retrain yourself to drive.
