Talking What do you think about this??

Disaster must have been so close BTW, it's from my previous car, an EVO6 with Ralliart ECU and just about no other mods than a HKS boost controller and absolutely no idea what so ever how a turbo charged engine works. I just noticed that the more I turned that knob the faster the car got. So I turned it as much as possible and this was the result, I was very very lucky that it didn’t break. It was actually so bent that it touched the bottom side of the cylinder wall and made an extremely loud knocking sound and that was probably what saved me because it wasn’t hard to figure out that something was very wrong. And you learn from your mistakes and I put in four new rods and pistons and removed the boost controller

you said it; people don't appreciate the forces within an internal combustion engine and the impact of materials on capabilities. I would sumise the pressure of the intake stroke put too much mix into the cylinder such that the ignition forced the piston down faster than the crank could respond (based on where the other pistons were in the stoke cycle), and the piston rod bent. I've seen a very similar "bend" resulting from hydrolock. IMHO, he was lucky it wasn't the head coming through the hood ...

damn... looks almost like it was purpose built... hehe... but yeah, sometimes it's better just to leave it up to the pro's to tune your car for ya if you don't have a grasp on tuning yet...

Thats a mighty fine effort! How much boost were you running to do that? Why did you remove the boost controller? You must have had one tough head gasket!

Hehe, maybe I exaggerated a bit when saying I knew absolutely nothing about turbo engine because I did. But I didn’t know much about tuning and the importance to upgrade fuel supply etc. I actually had the first road going EVO in Sweden so I didn’t have anybody to speak to about what to do and more importantly what NOT to do

I think I was running in the region of 1,6-1,7 bar or about 23-25psi and the reason for the damage was probably knocking, pinging, detonation or what ever you like to call it.

The major thing was that I didn’t upgraded fuel supply, I was running stock pump and everything else stock when it came to that part. However I did have a 3” exhaust, HKS filter, Blitz dump, and a HKS boost gauge but that’s about it.

When installing the boost controller of course I removed the ECU’s possibility to control boost and the only thing it could do when it detected knock was to pull timing. When I put the engine back together and removed the boost controller the car actually ran better at 1,3 bar than it did at 1,6 due to ignition timing being pulled by the ECU.

But I’ve learned my lesson, now I have a 255l pump, forged pistons and rods, a Motec stand alone ECU to complement my ATP turbo kit

PS. I've saved the rod as a souvenir and a warning
