Who said Evo 1st gear was too short?

Last month, somebody just got back from a test drive and said that 1st gear was too short. Of course, I slammed him for it.

But now, after analysing my dyno readout and the gear ratio data, I found out that he was right.

I couldn't find the thread, so I'm making a new one.

At any rate, you can see here that 1st gear is way too short. The thrust force drops off too much in 2nd, forcing you to hold the revs a few hundred above redline.

I think a good mod is to drop a tooth or two from 1st, or add a tooth or two to 2nd.

Anyway, I admit when I'm wrong Sorry for giving you bull**** before.

The fact remains that it is still a problem. Just because everybody else has it doesn't mean that it's fixed.

if you think thats a problem... try analyzing the 6-speed's gears... 1st in that car is even shorter then our 5 speed.

1st gear in the EVO6 is longer than in the 7/8 5-speed box, it also has a shorter 5th and personally I think there is to big a gap between 4th and 5th but on the other hand I wouldn't like a shorter 5th when going high speed on a highway
