problem with boost solenoid lines(diagram)
problem with boost solenoid lines(diagram)

my car only hits about 14psi of boost max, and I think I know what the problem is. the previous owner had a MBC and never reconnected the boost selonoid lines correctly.
I also hear that there is supposed to be some kind of restrictor pill before the T fitting? looking at the diagram above where should that pill be? is there only 1 restrictor pill? what else is missing? thanks
there should be a line connecting to your intercoller pipeing right after the turbo the pill is in the line connected to the boost solenoid and the t but you may have to t into the bov line if that doesnot fix your problem

that diagram is correct less the restrictor pill... Where are you pulling your boost readings from and at what rpm? If its from the intake manifold you should expect some presure drop due to the fact that the intercooler is so large.... If you are gettign 14psi readins below 3500 then there may be a problem...
As far was a fitting on the IC piping there is no fitting on the IC pipe for the bost solinoid, the boost solinoid connects to the turbo outlet pipe. Make sure your BOV isn't leeking boost as this has become a common problem for people.

do you have a man boost controller if so you can connect it to the t in the blow off vavle line and to the waste gate but if you dont you should have a line coming off the intercooler pipeing right below the turbo before the intercooler thats were its suppose to connect instead of connecting to the turbo you can buy tees a autozone but just make sure it is coonected to the intercooler pipe
Ok, both restrictor pills are missing from my lines , but the lines themselves are hooked up correctly minus the pills.
would the missing pills cause my car to loose boost, i am only getting (peak)14-15psi above 3500rpm in all gears.

no it sounds about right... your boost should be set at 16.24 above 3500, but with all the heat and such you prob won't be building as much boost as you'd like...
what kind of boost are u building below 3500? and have you tested it at night when its in the 60's ?

is their anything at all aftermarket on the car because i did experice loss of boost when i did stuff you may need to buy a manuel boost controller to controll the boost and also if the pill is not in their then you should not be dropping boost pressure at all it should stay within a half pound of boost at all times
blowoffsilver:
yeah i have a buschur dp/catback exhaust with highflow cat. you think that would affect boost?
I was actually getting about 13psi peak till I tightened all the hoses down.

yeah I tried doing it at night when its not hot out, my car gets up to 14-15psi but then starts to drop a couple of psi to redline. when it's warm i can actually only get up to around 14psi
are you sure the pills should not make a difference in the amount of boost I'm getting?
I was reading this thread and it seems like im having similar problems:

here's one from another thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=boost+pill:
or does this loss of boost only occur with an XEDE unit installed?

The original boost line set up should have have another metal restrictor pill in the hose between the "T" and the compressot outlet of the turbo. If it's not there, you will only get 12psi of boost. Happens all the times on WRXs because MBCs tend to be many peoples first mod.
Also, if you want to test to see if your boost control solenoid is working, just let your car idle and put "50" in all the cells in your boost map. This should make the boost solenoid pulse at 50% duty cycle. If you touch it, you should be able to feel it ticking. Just make sure your car is running when you do this since that is the only time the XEDE powers it.
Hope that also helps,

The diagram is correct. However there is a brass restrictor pill in the line that goes to the tubing side of the turbo, not the wastegate side. On my car when I changed hard pipes they forgot to put the pill back in the line and I was unable to boost more than around 13psi. Found this out after about 3 hours of head banging, and put it back in and back to around 18 psi.

well if thats the case then you do have a problem, with a full exhaust you should be seeing higher boost levels....
I can understand why removing the restrictor pills would affect the boost negatively but why are people removing them for more boost?... Doesn't make sense... Not to mention this would mean the boost solinoid isn't truely regulating boost at 19/16 psi but rather a lower level which is why your seeing 15psi My last guess would be that the resrictors are your problem and need to be reinstalled or a boost controller needs to be installed.

thanks guys, I have ordered the part from www.worksrally.com (great customer service and OEM parts prices)
hopefuly that will fix my problem, I will update when I get the parts installed.
on a side note how much HP do you think im loosing from the missing 4-5 psi?
