Wink Tuning with Combustion Pressure

I ran across a website the other day that had super fast data acquisition systems and sensors that allow you to record combustion pressure and plot the pressure against crank angle while the engine is being tested. This was used to tune the engine for max torque/power and to optimize timing, burn rates etc. The pressure etc. was used to calculate power. The website is www.tfxengine.com. Has anybody heard of this technology. Apparently they now have some systems that Joe Racer can afford and you don't necessarily need to have a dyno. I was considering purchasing one. Advice??

It's very expensive, and you need someone incredibly knowledgable. You might consider it if you plan on entering a privateer entry in F1. Take a look on the aempower forums for more information

Actually I don't think it's that bad. The Kistler plugs that are used output a 0-5v signal. Depending on the resolution and sampling frequency of the circuit, this could probably be handled by an AEM EMS if you had a calibrated input available.

I've got an inquiry out. We'll see how much the plugs are. I'm guessing between $500 and $1000. Sure, not cheap but for a tuner with or without a dyno, this type of monitoring would make ignition tuning much easier. I bet you'd see some pretty flat torque curves.

Well, it depends how serious you are also. Are you going to build a car to compete in the Speed World challenge and run straight race gas, then maybe think about it.
