how hard is it to drain your transmission oil in order to replace it with Penzoil syncromesh?

I have never done the transmission on an Evo but it should not be hard. How many quarts of tranny oil does it take to fill it?

I will let you guys know what the dealer says. i go on wedensday.

The dealer more than likely will tell you that this is normal. The tranny will loosen up with the mileage.

Also it is not hard to drop the tranny fluid and put the 3 quarts of Penzoil Syncromesh.

Im pretty sure most EVOs do that, mine did, and I also made a post about it, change my tranny fluids, removed restrictor, SS clutch line, adjusts pedal, etc. and nothing fixed it
BUT last week when I hit a little over 9K miles, I notice that the notchyness of the 1-2 & 2-3 shifts improved greatly and I have heard that the EVO is like that.

so what did the dealer say? mine is getting so annoying. sometimes it goes away for maybe 5-10 shifts, and then it comes back. doesnt matter if i shift fast , slow, high rpm, low rpm. does it anyway.

I actually didnt get to go but when i talked to the tech on the phone he said it is normal, especially on a low mileage Evo. i will change the fluid this weekend see what happens.

Is this occurring on only 05's? or are the 06's affected also. Thanks.

Your in luck, I actually have my manual on my workdesk.

Straight from my 06 IX non-ssl manual OEM manual transaxle fluid (transmission)

Vehicles with 5M/T
Lubricant: DiaQueen New multi gear oil API classification GL-3
viscosity range: SAE 75W-80

or

Lubricant: Gear Oil API classification GL-4
Viscosity range: SAE 75W-85 or 75W-90

Vehicles with 6M/T
Lubricatn: Diaqueen SUPER MULTI GEAR OIL (GL-4), or exact equivalent
Viscosity Range: 75W-85

I would not try and mix and match fluids or try and buy a cheaper alternative. I would just stick to whatever the manual suggests or any other fluids proven to work by members of evom.net
