AEM Intake - Boost Pressure Loss

I just finished installing my AEM short ram intake and I took the Evo for a test drive. Everything seemed smooth enough on install, but on the test drive I am only reaching 16-17 psi on my Defi boost gauge. I was definitely hitting 19 before my intake install.

I re-checked for boost leaks around the BOV and tightened everything down. No help. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hey, i had the same problem with my AEM intake, i was boosting less, i dont have a boost gauge but i can definitly feel the difference between having it on and off. I read in Import tuner when you add a intake to the evo, it will actually lose HP due to more air coming in, the ECU reacts by cutting down the boost.

That could be the difference. I drove around town some more and actually acheived full boost (19 lbs) a few times, but not like before. My "butt dyno" doesn't see any significant loss in performance during street driving though, so I guess I'm happy. The sound is music to my ears....

the ecu doesn't know what to do with the extra air so it cuts down boost as a safety precaution. Just crank up the boost with a BC and you'll be fine.

Doesnt anyone realize that these cars DO NOT like other intakes than the stock one. The big tuners even keep the stock box!!! I like the stealth of the stock box.
My 2 cents. Sorry if you dont agree.

Oh yes they do. That is just BS propogated on these forums. You like the stock box because you don't want to pop for an aftermarket. The EVO, just like ANY FI car, will LOVE a highflow intake. Just don't be a bonehead when you get it. TUNE YOUR ECU for it and it will be night and day.

( reasion for weird cutoff )

a: had cut into wrong vacume lines

b: stock BOV is leaking. even after gettin the vacumlines setup correctly i can not hold more the 14psi with out hitting a wall basicaly with the ebc. if i had a mbc their shouldnt have been issues

I would buy one if it made any difference rather than sound. Sorry.... I looked and debated over an aftermarket one and it just does not make sense. Yes with some tuning it would make more of a difference over a stock box with a K&N. Everyone spends their money differently and I choose not to get one.

Its been proving that intakes make the power in the upper gears...why wouldnt they? Thats like saying all girls have cancer...its ridiculous.

You guys think an MBC/EBC is the best way to get full boost, or is it a fuel correction problem? Are there other options that won't void the warranty?

Thanks for the input.

An Intake on an otherwise STOCK evo will need you a LOSS, but tuned for it, you win.
