Hey guys I just want to say that Kevin from King Of Imports and Cal from Gruppe-S are two of the most stand up guys I have ever dealt with. Kevin runs a much smaller operation than Gruppe-S and he personally funds it all. He is a very flexible individual but still must make returns on his investments. I purchased my Braille lightweight mini battery from him for a very fair price and it is perfect. Kevin will bend over backward to help out his customers. Keep in mind that he is an up an coming vendor and is currently trying to get his name out in the Evo community. This is his means of livelyhood so keep that in mind before you jump him for discounting preorders. It is not my intent to slam anyone in this thread, just wanted to let everyone know that King Of Imports is a respectable company with a stand up guy running it all.

The MR BOV is the same one on the 1g eclipse, you could go to your local junkyard and get one, they hold up to 30 psi (cushed) but still none the less, U best know I got mine.

Geez, the misinformation that spreads around these forums are horrible! For all you people who think the MR BOV is the same as the 1g, you are wrong! The MR and 1g BOV are similar in construction, but are not the exact same valve. These are the differences:

1) The MR BOV base is triangular, while the 1g BOV base is a diamond shape.
2) 1g BOVs need to be crushed to hold more than 18-19 psi. The MR valve does not. This tells me the spring rates between the valves are different.
3) IIRC, the MR valve diameter is bigger (if someone has both, please take a side by side comparison pic).

For those who installed the MR blow-off valve, did you reflash or will it work with the factory ECU program? Someone mentioned about stalling, any comments on this? Thanks.

All true but #2. My 1G BOV holds 21psi just fine uncrushed.

Here are some pics of the MR and the 1G installed in my Evo. The hose fit around the outlet port on the 1G BOV is indeed very small. I really had to tighten down the clamp so that it wouldn't slide off with a good tug.

Also, note the position of the vacuum line outlet on the 1G vs. the MR. The MR valve has the vacuum line towards the 'rear' of the valve versus on the 1G valve it is more towards the 'front'. (A bit awkward install wise for a 1G valve in an EVO as I had to wrap the vacuum hose around the valve to keep it away from the radiator fan.)

The MR valve is definately a better fit for an EVO than a 1G. I might have to get my hands on an MR and compare the two.

Time to junkyard: 1-2hrs
Time dicking around with spring and install: 2-4 hours

6 hours - pay yourself 10 bucks an hour = 60 bucks.
Cost of junkyard BOV 10-30 bucks.

90 bucks total for a low estimate. How much are you going to "save" by going to the junkyard? I suppose it depends on your time, but seems like it makes more sense just to buy the MR BOV and be done with it.

Added one (MR blow-off) to my P2 set up w/out reflash. No problems, No dramatic increase in boost. Same as stock sound (loud through HKS RS). Fly up to a stoplight and slam on the brakes w/ AC on high it drops below 500rpms for a sec and stumbles but has never stalled. Punch the throttle in too high a gear and suddenly let up and you get a short farting noise. Is this compressor surge? I don't know. Again, I said no problems becuase these are all stupid ways to drive your EVO anyway, and during normal/ hard driving is completly transparent. Got it from gruppe s, 119$, no problems, installed it in about 5 min. Now all I need are the diffs, tranny, wheels, roof, turbo, struts and ecu.

I guess the leaking point varies from valve to valve. Mine leaked at 18 psi on my old 1g. No matter what I set my MBC setting to, it would just stay at 18 psi.

Don't forget that you need get the flanged pipe for it. After all is said and done, the cost of the 1g bov setup will be close to the MR. The small price difference, if there is one, makes the MR valve well worth the money. You get a part that has OEM fit and finish, which is always a plus in my book. I hate hacks.

Well, considering that the stock 1g's run 11 psi of boost, I would say the 1g BOV was more than adequate for its application. The 1g BOV is a pretty nice OEM piece.

I've had my MR valve in for about a month now and it has stalled on me twice. I've got a custom Vishnu tune, but that was before the valve...
