What is normal EGT temp?

My EGT gauge reads around 1200 when just driving normal on freeway and when I gun it, it will rise above 1400........What is the normal EGT you guys get? Is mine high? If so, how can I lower it?

Cruising at highway speeds my EGTs are at like 700 C. The highest they've ever gone was 850 C, but that was during the hottest time of the day in June, driving across the Sonoran desert with the A/C on during a WOT pull. For the most part the EGTs usually stay under about 830 C for me.

My EGT probe is on #1 runner about 5" from the block.

EGT readings depends on where you moung the probe. Right off the cylinder head readings are not the same as on the downpipe.

I thought you'd want to mount your probe as close to all the exhaust ports "collecting" but as close to the head as possible to get a more accurate reading of EGT's coming out of the motor?
