Boost reading - is it normal

I just got the Defi BF installed.

My boost is reading 1.49 bars which i think is 21.5psi using 1bar=14.4psi. I only have a 3inch turbo back with test pipe. Is this normal? I thought peak should be around 1.3 bars. We set the warning at 1.5 bars and i don't think it went off as the needle was close to the 1.5 mark. I'll try and do a record and play later on after work to see more accurately.

But given my mods, is it ok for the car to run 21psi?

As for the gauges they're really nice and well worth the money. i'll try and post pics. btw i got the Boost, EGT and Oil temp installed on the a-pillar. the A-pillar mount even has a cutoff for the tweeters. I got it done from Godspeed. Their service is top notch and I couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend anyone in Metro Detroit area to them. Also there prices are very reasonable. Great bunch of guys and Dan's very helpful.

Dan - thanks for the set up and great customer service

The stock Evo engine can handle up to 23psi boost as long as you don't stay on it for an extended period of time. Boosting to pass or get on the highway or something similar should not be a problem.

If it makes you feel any better, when I upgraded my Downpipe, Cat and 3" exhaust, my boost went up to over 21psi (spike) so what your experiencing (slightly higher boost) is normal for an upgraded exhaust system. As long as your not running lean, 21psi is pretty common level of boost for many of us.

Thanks for replying. That definitely helps me out. I wasn't sure if it was a faulty solenoid etc or if it was just because of the turbo back. Also what reading would u consider lean by looking at the EGT? My peak EGT was a little above 800C...i think around 820C.

my hold at 20 PSI after peaking at 21psi. Full exhaust with no cat.

Stock Turbo could handle more than 23 PSI, it just has the Boost limit at 22 PSI.

Agreed, but please note I said the engine can safely handle upto 23psi of boost. 24psi is, to my understanding, the rated limit for the stock head gasket and head studs.

I have the Defi BF also. My gauge will spike to 1.45 then quickly taper to 1.3 and come back up to 1.4. I have Vishnu Exede, Helix 3" Downpipe, UR 3" High flow Cat and EVO MR BOV. Your boost sounds right for your mods.

thanks for the help guys. makes me feel a lot more comfortable with the 1.5 reading. And yes it does taper down quickly so it's not running at 1.5 all the time.

The BFs are awesome. Haven't seen a better gauge that is so easy to read at night and looks totally beautiful. I tried to snap some pics but deleted them as they just don't do justice to the gauges
