Next modification?(Need some help)

Hey everybody,

I have a some mods done already on my evo that I've had for about 2 months now. Theres just over 3K miles on her. I have the following mods as of right now:
Turboxs 3" DP
Cat delete pipe
HKS 3" catback exhaust
And some visual goodies

I want to do something for some more power, what should I do next? I have around $2K to play with, and need a little advice. I want to get a BOV, but I dont think its def. needed right now. Anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanks
Steevo

Well, you could go with cams next like 264in/272ex or 272in/272ex. You have many different vendors to chose from like HKS, JUN, and Tomei. If you do go with cams you'll probably want to get your ECU flashed or some sort of Piggy-back system. Check the Vendor's forum for the various companies that tune EVOs. With the mods you have listed and what I have just shown you, your car will probably put down around 330-350whp.

Also, the only BOV I would recommend would be the EVO MR BOV. it is just like stock excpet it is all aluminum and not plastic and has a little stiffer spring in it to hold a bit more boost. Most other BOV are vent to atmosphere, where as the EVO BOV is recalculating, and can hurt performance if not properly tuned for it.

Engine Management

I'd go with engine management, UTEC/Xede/Flash depending on what you want to do, then cams/cam gears/fuel pump.

Yeah, I have one company here in town who is pushing the UTEC on me, should I go ahead with it, or is is the Xede a little more dependable?

yeah Engine managment would be an excellent thing to get before even thinking about cams and cam gears. I did 272's this weekend on stock gears, but only running just SAFCII and have no way to tune for them so idle and a/f at idle is whack, but everything else is good. Also I would do any tranny mods you can do before the car starts grinding/missing shifts/locking out etc. I currently am having a problem with 3rd gear lockout in high rpm and am working on getting it sorted out. Just purchased Kartboy bushings this morning to see if that will help. Good luck.

For the grinding issues, i would give BGSynchromesh a shot. That stuff is Amazing.

<----Running Pennzoil Synchromesh and Speed Source SS line, still has 3rd gear lockout issue. Next option i am trying is bushings and rebleeding clutch. Otherwise im out of options and i guess Shi7 outta luck.

How about a boost gauge so you dont blow up your car? A boost controller? All the simple things that you need. I'd all the bolt on's, Intake, etc but I would defently look at some sort of engine management. Dont let anyone tell you one is better then the other. Whats right for them may not be the same for you. Look at ALL the options and what you want out of your car and then make an educated decisions. We have alot of folks on here who love one tuner or another and they are blinded by that. DONT become one of them, look into everything and decide for your self.

If you don't need a tunable management system, with $2k get yourself a MBC, boost gage, HKS cams, Walbro fuel pump, and the Dynoflash Fireball 3 mail in flash. That, of course being the best bang for the buck (well over 300whp has been made with this option and your mods). If you are near anyone who can really tune it, the AEM EMS with a full tune would be a little over your budget... but seems to be the better buy in the long run.

PS Ditto what BADEVO said... I just threw out the name of a flash that seems to work well with that combo... NOTHING says that one tuner will work better for you than another other that their own work.
