Help please! Hard to select 4th

My father has an Evolution VI and today when I was driving it and I tried to change from 3rd to 4th (not the first time I had made this gear change while I was driving) there was a big crunch. I couldn't figure out what had happened at first, I was sure I had the clutch pedal all the way down.

This was just as we were turning into our street so I stayed in 3rd until we got home and then while the car was sitting still in the driveway (with the engine running and the clutch pedal all the way down) I tried to change from 3rd to 4th again and the gear lever moved out of 3rd to neutral ok but then it stuck going into 4th and I had to pull it hard to get it into gear, all the other gears seemed fine. I switched the car off and tried again and this time it felt normal. I switched the car on again, tried it, and switche off again and tried it. While the car was running it was hard to change, when I switched off the first change (the first time I tried to get 4th after I switched off) was hard but then it was normal again.

Does anyone know what might cause this?

When my father got the car (a couple of weeks ago) the clutch was engaging very close to the floor so we bled the clutch system and now it engages a little higher but still near the floor. I don't know if this is relevant but it is the only thing related to this that has changed recently. Even after this change my father has driven the car and not had this problem. Also this happened to me when I was almost home, I had already made a few gear changes into 4th and not had this problem?

Thankyou,
Aston

So with the massive amount of knowledge and experience on these forums, with the Lancer Evolution series and with cars in general, I manage to get a problem that no one can help me with? That sounds like my luck.

Thanks any way

i think that if you can't get into a certain gear, you shouldn't muscle it in and possibly create more problems.

I had to check if it would go in or if it was completely locked out of 4th. I only did it once or twice, now the car is sitting in the garage and won't be driven until this can be fixed.

Still no ideas? Could it be clutch related or is it to do with the gearbox or the gear lever and linkages?
