Is this my Clutch going or Stock Cat cant process Newly Acquired Air Flow?

Lately when driving under light boost the car takes on the characteristic of "hydroplaning" a millisecond here and there, from 3500 to about 4/4500rpms and usually in 3rd gear. I cant tell if the rpms are moving faster than the mphs, because it seems to go up correspondingly, although, i feel it pull and than PULL as i get on it. I Suppose it could also feel similiar to a fluttering or leak... When I mash on it those symptoms described are gone, but for some reason the car doesnt feel as strong as it should, perhaps this is in my mind or perhaps it isnt or perhapst he car has just felt weird overall. To be sure my clutch isnt slipping, Ive thrown it into 5th gear at 40 mphs and mashed the gas...the rpms stay constant, no rapid fluctuation.

What im wondering is, is this clutch related? My clutch is definately worn (clutch shudder, rough slippage into first). With this cooler weather coming in, the clutch(feels like it) engages at the wayyyy end of the line and doesnt feel right, nor grab like it did throughout summer. Before, it would have to warm up some and than grab and be dandy. Now, I barely feel it grabbing like it use to. Earlier today, it did pretty well, from what i believe as the weather being fairly warm, including the morning...

This is offtopic, but I should have double checked when i got my car modded, if they were putting exhaust on...i had known the car sounded stock on the dyno. If this doesnt seem like clutch issues, my other belief is, could it be the aftermarket downpipe, being fed into the stock cat, causing back pressure or some sort of clog...but than how does this describe full throttle and no problems?

My mods are:

HKS RS Intake
MBC set to 21(spikes to 22)
RMR Downpipe
Flash
Stock Clutch

all hoses are tightened.

i have that same clutch feeling too. all i have is a kn drop in. i'm gonna get the mr bov though cause i think the plastic one may be leaking. i've noticed the bov sound isn't as loud as it used to be (before it started hapening) when i let off the gas after nailing it. i'm thinking its leaking some boost possibly but i dont' have my defi's in yet to be sure.

it feels like it's skipping a beat, but the rpm doesn't skip like it's slipping. I have that same feeling as well.

I have a turboback exhaust. but this happened before all that, so it's your clutch or it's how you throttle.

I could feel it on 3 gear the most. and the funny thing is I can't feel it from an aftermarket clutch equipped EVo. So it's got to be the clutch.

My boost don't leak at all. After I put my exhaust on, the boost is holding at 19psi after peaking to 21 psi. So it's just got to be your clutch. it's slipping very slowly and it's not as bad but it'll just get worst, you know what i mean? lol

Your guage is lying if you think you're getting 21psi stock...

I too have experienced the "rpms-are-climbing-but-the-car-isn't-going-all-that-faster-syndrome". My clutch is on it's way out also. Better the clutch than the TC or tranny.

Sorry to say man but i am fairly positive its your clutch... the same thing happend to my car after i owned it for a week (bought it used)... read my post (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ghlight=alaska)..... but basically what you are describeing started about 2 days before mine started slipping. My clutch actually started slipping on a cold morning also. good luck.

Know any hills near you? If so, head for the hills my son. Go slow, put it in 5th and accelerate up the hill. The extra load of the incline should help the clutch slip if that is indeed what it's doing. Probably the easiest way to tell if the clutch is slipping.

Sounds like the clutch. Try UFOs method.

well i thankfully think that my clutch is ok. i tried the 5th gear thing on a few hills and the rpms didn't raise a bit. i also hit 60 at the end of 2nd from a roll shifting at 7k which is what i always have. it still feels a little sluggish around 3500 rpms in 3rd and 4th. i'm gonna retighten all my clamps and i've also just ordered the mr valve. hope this works.

Im not sure if this thread went off topic or not, but for all the responses about hills and crap. It doesnt slip. My RPMs dont shoot up. It feels like there is something restricting my car (plastic bov?). Maybe its my bald tires? Maybe its a few things. Ive gotten on my car many times and throw it back into 5th and no shooting rpms. Dunno...
