Lightbulb VTA BOV preference?

Hey everyone, yeah yeah i know BOV's are a common topic these days however I'm gonna ask everyone what BOV they enjoy the best, and/or which BOV you are running now. Also describe the sound of each in comparison to the other BOVs out there. Let's get some good comparo's goin!

HKS SSQV hands down. Great sound and very effective design (the more boost you run, the better it holds).

uh ... yeah ... anybody here solved the "stumbles / runs really rich" with a 'kewl' sounding VTA valve and the stock MAF sensor?

It can't be done properly with the stock MAF sensor. I used to run a vented BOV on my GSX with the stock MAF and just lived with the stumble. It also causes more lag between shifts.

I had a Tial and it sounded awesome.

What would you need to do to get rid of the stalling and stumbling if you VTA?

You'd have to run a blow thru MAF that's placed between the BOV and throttle body on the intercooler pipring. Or you can run a speed density setup by using an AEM.

Well...I see it like this...(technical explanation included) ....

Imagine your an air molecule having the opportunity of meeting an EVO on the road. What a great opportunity! j/k

Mr. Molecule enters the air box, gets stripped of any dust barnicules in the air filter, and then gets measured by the Air Meter attached directly after the filter. So...now Mr. Computer knows Mr. M is 'in' the system, and is getting ready to give Mr. M a piece of fuel to burn with. Kinda like matchmaking. Mr. M zips through the turbo's compressor, around the intake pipe, into the intercooler because being compressed really makes, you 'hot' and now Mr. M goes "up" past the BOV. Now we have two scenarios, 1.) If the BOV is closed Mr. M zips into the intake manafold, and recieves fuel and gets sucked into a cylinder and burnt. or 2.) if BOV is open and its a VTA type, Mr. M gets puffed into the atmosphere and never burnt with the fuel Mr. Computer has already arranged. Yet, Mr. M sounds soooo kewl, and all the Hondazz boyz glare at you, 'cause homey got a tuuurbo. Then the EVO stumbles 'cause all that 'extra' fuel doesn't ignite properly, cools down the combustion chamber, fouls your plugs, and may even scrub your cylinder walls down with unburnt fuel 'cleaner.'

Its really not that dramatic, but it all comes down to 'when' and 'where' the air is measured. People running aftermarket systems that 1.) measure air upstream of the BOV, or 2.) use a MAP (Manafold Absolute Pressure) sensor system are able to use a VTA BOV. Also...using a recirc. BOV in the EVO actually helps keep the compressor from surging, and I think is a good buffer to our 'expensive' Turbo/Intake system.

Enjoy,

jcnel.

There is no stumbling etc wit the GFB.. full adjusted design, no ripping apart trying to change springs.. just turn the dial.. couldny be much easier then that, plus its a full hybrid.. and at 50/50, with its large horn, i bet its louder then a 100% any other 100% vta at the same level of boost.
