Blow off/Forge recirc question. No its not a ricer one...

Ok, so I've had this thing for a while. But I drove my friends car and realized that his doesnt blow off the same. Now i dont care about the sound...its the action. When i release my foot from the gas just a tad while on the highway or moving fast and i am IN boost, the bov flutters...like it is blowing off a few times. so my solution is either use the gas or not. Does anyone else have this problem? it doesnt feel like its the best thing for the car, so i drive in a manor to make sure it doesnt happen. it didnt happen on my wrx with 306whp...but that also was VTA...this is recirc. do you suggest trying a different spring? i have the second hardest spring in there. it holds boost perfectly fine. or should I try a different valve? I think this is a problem that shouldnt be there, please let me know what you would do.

i know the HSK SSQV flutters by design.
but i also know the stock BOV flutters if its in backwards

do you feel any surge/lag when it happens?

hmmm it almost feels like a surge...it like blows off/flutters until i move my foot off the gas more...unlike a naturally aspirated car or a turbo car with stock bov, which feels smooth...this makes the car hesitate...because its blowing off over and over...like 5 times in a row. so lets say im at 21 psi...and than take my foot off to like 15psi...it doesnt like it...its either all or nothing.

I've got the same set-up, and although mine doesn't do that, if you run a search there is a problem with a handful of these DV's surging and not performing its duty. Check it out

I bought mine right when they came out for our cars and it did not come with any springs/shims so what I have in there right now is what it came with, I believe it is the blue spring. You would have to try each spring...you want it stiff, but enough for it to completely open yet not surge. Experiment..

Im trying to get the concept of what is actually happening...is the spring too stiff that its staying open when i let off the gas and flutters...or is it too loose that there is too much space for the piston to move around and needs a stiffer spring. I guess i'll get my mechanic friend this weekend and do a little testing.

I was going to say it sounds like the incorrect spring.

If it's fluttering, IMO I would think the current spring is too stiff. (The piston closes too fast, vaccum(?) builds up and opens the valve...)

But that's just the way I think of it in my head.

I would try both. See which one helps.

Well lets see here... if the bottom side vents... the spring pushes the valve closed... boost builds.... keeps the piston closed... clutch is pushed vaccum line pulls open the valve boost vents into intake...

I think that's right...
