"if trade-in value wasn't such ***, i would have gotten rid of my evo long ago."
You have got to be kidding me!! It may not be true across Mitsubishi's line, but the Evo has excellent resale value and is predicted to going forward for some time. Our 5 year residual values as a percentage of cost new are higher than even the E55 and M5 for sedans. For more information click:

Then click on the jetta wagon for photos of this years resale value winners. Let's face it though, any car depreciates over time.

Let me get this right? lol. You got your clutch covered under warranty and then decided to replace it on your own. Now you want to start a rally against Mistu?Originally Posted by NYREDEVO

I could see this if you were turned down on your warranty but you got your work done and then decided it wasn't good enough!?!?! Don't think you should be the one to front this...lol. Would have better luck with someone that was denied work. Lawyers good have a good time with you. Just a thought...

The way I see it, everyone who mods their Evo is doing Mitsu a huge favor. their "best backed car warranty BS" may fly on mom's Galant, but the Evo is on the edge of it's performance threshold. As it is, If they don't deny a warranty, they're replacing a bunch of motors in 3-5 years. Any increase in performance is only decreasing reliability. It's a choice we all make.
I will keep my Evo stock for a while and see where Mitsu is in a year or 2. Besides, after putting almost $20K into a motorcycle, the Evo is just a slow little commuter car anyway.
Until of course I blow the bike up, because all that motor work pretty much gaurantees a rebuild and some new parts every year.
You want to play, you have to PAY!

Whether or not i got my first clutch warranitied shouldn't make any difference other than Mitsu admitting there was something wrong with it. I elected to replace my clutch again with an aftermarket one because the stock one was beginning to wear out again and i had the $$$ to do it....As far as a rally against Mitsu, this is not - i said it before I LOVE MY CAR...I just feel that there is a issue that needs to be raised and remedied by the managment because there are people out there who won't be as lucky in getting their clutches replaced...

All I'm saying is that with you getting yours fixed under warranty you don't have a leg to stand on and Mistu's lawyers would have a blast with that. It breaks down like this, you had a problem, you took it to them, they fixed it. You then replaced it with aftermarket parts. Now they are relieved of the problem, atleast in your case. I'm not saying no one needs to bring this to Mitsu's attention but it should be someone who's warrenty was denied. Just from a legal point.
I agree that Mitsu should NOT have to pay for the people who are building up there motors, blowing their trannies or motors up due to some bonehead with a boost controller and then expecting Mitsu to pay for their mistakes...That's not my problem. My problem is that Mitsu is automaticallly assuming that is the case. There are alot of people who bought the Evo and left it stock due to Mitsu warranty denying reputation that are still facing the same problems, what do u say to them?
C.M.S..Why wouldn't I have a leg to stand on? Mitsu fixed my clutch under warranty (which is basically an admission that something was wrong) Then I go back to Mitsu saying it's starting to slip again and they tell me that theres no free ride this time, so i elect to purchase a QUALITY clutch to replace the CRAP they but back into my car. They never actually FIXED anything...they put some duck tape on it. I think I'd do fine in court - thanx for voicing your opnion thou!

See, you never said you went back again...for the same problem. If your on here asking for opinions and advice you need to state the facts clearly. And as far as court, you'd still have problems unless you have another Mech who looked at your car and agrees that you needed that aftermarket clutch and that a stock clutch would not have fixed the problem. You want to know how much weight you can muster? Talk to a lawyer.....
But what do I know, everyones already got their mind made up that mitsu's are crap and that they need to step to the plate. When the truth is must people driving evo's don't have the knowledge to drive a car this powerful. Not saying this is always the case, and most won't admit to it. This isn't a honda Si and requires more skill in driving it.

Why not? I understand that they are of a ware and tear nature but so are brakes...If you brakes went within the first 5000 miles and you were not beating on your car would you say something? I would, and if it could be proved that they were cutting corners and putting in crappy brakes u bet alot of people would make noise about it..Our clutches are having a similar problem, they are fried way before they should be, and it's not just one person who is having this problem (this post also relates to the snycros in the tranny and some pmed me, the transfer case should be included to) Either way the issues we are having is more than likey due to the all wheel drive our cars have, the setup is much more complicated than a front wheel drive car and is (correct me is im wrong) a new system exclusive to the U.S Market, so there aer bound to be some kinks..my whole argument is that mitsu should acknowledge that and help fix it instead of blaming it's customers!
CMS....cmon man, so your telling me that everyone has has toasted a stock clutch can't drive?

My problem isn't really with the transmission, my clutch hasnt died (yet). My problem is that they market the car as you should buy it, modify it, and then take it to the track. But if you take it to the track, they void your warranty. Does any car manufacturer stand behind their product any more?!

no, that's not what I'm saying... I'm saying that most of the guys b*tchin' about their clutchs are. Most of the guys I've talked to that have had problems with the clutch have had it fixed under warranty. Dealerships, if they have good mech's, can tell if it was a factory problem and tend to fix it so they don't get in legal problems. They know when they have a leg to stand on and when they don't. But like I said, what do I know...
(bowing out, didn't mean to start an aguement, was just giving my opinion.)

Also 2 other things.......there are PLENTY of cars that make MORE POWER then the Evo and there clutchs don't fry after 5K and in all fairness I don't think someone who does not drive an Evo can not make a comment that we all can't drive just b/c so many clutchs burn out...if u DROVE an Evo and ur clutch lasted then maybe you could make a comment like that. Until then this thread is not about bashing each other it's a call to make Mitsu TAKE SOME RESPONISBITLY for design flaws in there flagship that will hopefully trickle down to all its customers!
