good luck.
I haven't had any problems with my clutch or tranny and I drive my car hard. Two of my friends that have Evo's also have had no problems. Mitsu did recognize the problem with the 5th gear synchro and are replacing them. I would hope that if there was a problem with the clutch (I personally don't think there is) that mitsu would recognize it and attempt to fix it. The people that should really be pissed are the people that had crankwalk issues from the 2gen dsm's. Now that was total BS.
There are between 5-10000 EVO's in the US market between the 2003 and 2004 model year. Only a small percentage are having issues. I think it's the owners who need to take personal responsibility and realize that driving habits are a factor.
They are almost out of business- hating on them isn't going to accomplish much right now and warts and all, the car is still amazing.
The fact that they brought us basically a street legal race car is worth it to me if there are a few issues- race cars don't come with warranty. If I wanted a regular passenger car I wouldn't have bought it. I junked my warranty the first month I bought it and haven't looked back...

people should realize that when a new evo gets delivered to the dealership the employees want to pop its cherry. if a new evo has 10 miles on the odo you can bet that 9.9 of those mile were driven like tommi makkinen at rally corsica. so if you have a clutch, transaxle, or transfer case problem on your new evo there's a 90% chance it was from abuse by the dealership employees not a manufacturing defect by mitsubishi motors.
i'm having the same problem with my Expo LRV. 95% of US mitsubishis are built in the US but the EVO and the LRV were built in Japan. its cool that we have cars built from years of WRC experience but not so cool that we have no techs that can service them. if your tech doesn't know the difference between a w4a32 and a w4a33 or thinks a w5m51 is the same as a w5m33 then don't let them work on it again.

I saw that with my eyes...
I much agree with the above post. I don't own a Evo yet but I test drove two. One of them was a white 2004 RS. It had some 20 miles on it when we got in. The dealer, definitelly to impress me and satisfy his pleasure, pushed it to 5000 rpm in the first gear under my eyes. Yes, it pushed me back in my seat but then I would have never bought that car for what he did.

I would have to say I'd agree with this petition, at least in part. I have an Evo, and my clutch went at about 12K miles. No, I don't drag my car. No, I don't do 5K launches. Yes, I know how to drive a stick. The fact that my clutch died at 12K miles was very annoying. What's more, I wasn't about to pay my own money for a stock clutch that I knew was going to die in another 12K miles. So, instead, I went with a quality aftermarket clutch (Exedy Hyper Single). What worries me now is if I begin to have issues with my transmission, I'm going to be caught holding the bill, because Mitsu will take one look under my car and find the clutch. If having the aftermarket clutch didn't screw my warranty, I wouldn't be so mad, but it does. The fact of the matter is, though, I didn't have any other choice but to replace it with aftermarket, since clutches aren't covered under warranty to begin with, and neither is the very expensive labor.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo to death. I hope to have it for many many years, but there really is something wrong when a clutch needs replacing in the first year. And something doesn't have be a high percentage to be considered a problem. If there are even 1% of the evo drivers out there, about 100 evos, that have this issue then its still a problem. I work for a company that strives to operate at what is known as 6 sigma, or 3.4 defects per MILLION. I know no auto companies operate anywhere near this level, but being 99% effective still isn't good enough. Under normal wear, NO clutch should die in the first year, or under 20K miles. And if it does, it should be replaced at the manufactuer's cost.
As far as marketing goes, someone really should bring this to the attention of Mitsu. I have heard numerous times from numerous people that they would love to buy an evo, but won't due Mitsu's poor support for the vehicle. Whether this is true or not, the rumor is out there. Mitsu really should make an effort at marketing themselves a little better. I've heard that Subaru gives out free SCCA memberships with their cars. Maybe Mitsu should as well, and be a little more forgiving when it comes to voiding warranties. Just because I track my car, doesn't mean my bumper to bumper warranty should be voided. Prove that the problem occured due to mishandling of the vehicle. If not, cover it. And do both with the utmost of professionalism.

Orion.. again thanx, it's nice to see that someone understands what I am trying to do...I said it before this is not a petition to bash Mitsu, it is simply to get them to value their customers a little more and stand behind there work. You said it very well...it's a lack of professionalism - I highly doubt there are any BMW, Benz or Acura's out there that would simply ignore their clients like that...but that is the difference that shines though in their financals as well

I second that comment!
hMMmmmm.
Many good points
a clutch is a wear item and is never covered by anyone- be glad you swung that one...congrats!
Until I get dicked by my dealer or mitsu I can't in clear conscious sign somthing that says I was dicked by my dealer or Mitsu.
Good luck to those of you that have been dicked over and I hope your being honest with yourselves- Who knows, I might find myself there someday... 5th gear zings a bit with anything less than the slowest most delibrate shifts, I'll keep you posted if the dealer gives me a hassel- but I doubt they will.
No doubt Mitsu is a joke *** car company but they are also desprate and ballsy enough to bring this car here and suffer all the afore mentioned issues that the American market has to offer.
