Well considering the HID's and foglights are/were standard on the 03-04's then the price did increase somewhat. And the MSRP for the standard GSR was $29,999 +$595 dest. The price below does not include destination. BUT you are getting the ACD which is great. I would have waited for the 05, but I love my HID's and the deal I got was just too good to wait. For the 05's, people would have to wait till the end of next year before getting any major deals on them, but who knows.

Wow the '05 isn't too much more. i wish i could've waited... But I've got the '04 with the sun&leather pkg for a pretty decent deal. One of the advantages to the '04 was that Mitsu made some minor improvements to the '03. This meant a lot to me in my decision to get an '04 instead of an '05. I hope the '05 doesn't have too many bugs with the significant changes to the original confguration. I would be more comfortable waiting for the second year of production to iron out the bugs...

Differences between 03 and 05
Stopped by the dealer this weekend to look at an '05 GSR, no sunroof car. Differences I noticed:
-I saw the old white ('04) and the new white side-by-side. If there is any difference, someone is going to have to point it out to me. They looked exactly the same.
-As others have pointed out, the GSR base model comes with no HID's and no foglights.
-Keys are a slightly different shape, now have a chrome Mitsubishi logo too. Bling!
-No more coin container on the lower LH side of the dash
-ACD button is located on the upper LH edge of the dash. Push to toggle through each of the 3 modes. The car will remember the last mode it was in last upon startup. The indicator light is directly in front of the driver, on the tach (iirc).
-Sounded like a different chime when you turn the key on. Could be wrong on this one
-The backsides of both sun visors have small document holders molded into them
So no huge revelations, but I always find it interesting to see what they changed. If I remember anything else, I'll repost.

A few more...
The '05 GSR has no intercooler sprayer system, thus no sprayer switch. That freed up some room for larger cup holder. I will buy a Slurpee tomorrow and determine its true worth.
Also, I heard that some of the 05's are coming with lighter doors, but I don't know if that applies to the GSR.
Lastly, there is supposed to be a nice power increase on all 05's. Changes consist of a larger turbine nozzle, revised cam timing, and new wastegate according to Speed:

Anyone else have more details?

And more...
Just found out that a small problem has been fixed, or so it appears. Now when you open the trunk, even if it flies up and goes to its full extents, the wing will not hit the antenna.
I had heard that MR's would have an automatic 5,000rpm rev limit when holding the clutch in, in first gear. I just confirmed that this is the case for the GSR as well.

Hehe - 1 more thing
I swear I'm not doing this to up my post count
My friend and I were looking at the '05 taillights and although they are still Altezza-style, they appear to be different. The 03's were shaped internally to make it appear that they were composed of numerous LED's. The 05's seem to have done away with that look for the most part and seem a little cleaner.

So you pickup a new 05?
And...
yet another small detail:
Seatbelt reminder buzzer - comes on every few seconds if you drive around without your seatbelt fastened.
When the horn sounds to indicate the doors are locked, it seems quite a bit quieter than the '03. Maybe just my imagination.
Ok, I'm done. This is getting boring even for me.

What does the '05 VIII "GSR" have in place of the foglights, and is there any wiring, or are the headlight assembly housings completely different than the HID version?
What type of halogen headlight bulbs are used?
If I get an '05, I will want to install aftermarket HIDs and fogs.

I am still considering an Evo 8. The MSRP* is $ 33,619 including the sun/sound package. I also get an Employee discount so my price is $29,765. Even though I'm a Mits Employee, I still wonder if the STI is a better deal just for resale and reliability? Any thoughts?

I have no idea what kind of bulbs are used. Sorry. Maybe someone else here can tell us.
