Unreal.
An opinionated author that speaks of the parent companies issues in JAPAN as if the vehicles destined for the states have carried the same issues..and disatisfaction.

Doesn't he know that MMA/MMSA is different then over there? It is much more regulated here and much more rigid in regards to Safety, etc.

I think that article is an opinionated bunch of trash and I would barely wipe my butt with it.

My guess is, the author is a Simpsons fan and was watching an episode and came up with that literary garbage..

I searched to see if Edmonds recomended any of the Mits line but thought..Who cares what those guys think..why waste my time.

That is an old article. Did you even notice the date?
I value their opinion about as much as I do Consumer Reports, which is virtually nill. Those guys should stick to reviewing toaster ovens and vacuum cleaners.

Consumer Reports= A Bunch of old ladies testing toasters

Edmunds= A bunch of ex car guys that couldn't sell jack on the showroom floor but like "helping" the consumer.

Mitsu America response to that article...

Dear Reader,

After the publication of this lighthearted feature, which correlates recent events at Mitsubishi Motors with the hapless luck of fictional character Homer J. Simpson, we received a request from Kim Custer, director of media relations at Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMA), to provide MMA's side of the story. Here is his take:

Recalls of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles sold in the American market are handled by Mitsubishi Motors in the U.S. in close cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). We separately track all customer and dealer complaints here regarding product quality, including safety issues. While we take the conduct of our parent company, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Japan, very seriously regarding their failure to properly report product defects to the Japanese Ministry of Transport (MOT), this practice has no bearing on our processes here in the U.S. I would also like to point out that neither of the vehicles pictured in the article -- the 2001 Eclipse Spyder and 2001 Montero Sport -- were affected in any way by the recent recall announcements in Japan.

We have provided NHTSA detailed information regarding the recall issues in Japan and have voluntarily taken all necessary actions to assure NHTSA and other relevant agencies that no U.S. customers have or will be endangered. Public confidence in the safety of our products is of critical importance to us and we have not and will not do anything to compromise vehicle safety.

Guys I know we love our Evos . But the Edmunds article was true in everything it stated. Once you ignore the Homer Simpson comparisons. MMC was and is still under alot of turmoil one thing the article forgot to mention in the late 90's Mitsu actually had their manufacturing license suspended by the Goverment of Japan at a time when the Evo 7 was undergoing preliminary testing. It was questionable if the Evo7 would be out to market in time. Evo 7 was significant for mitsu. It was a whole new platform (Cedia instead of old smaller Lancer/Mirage platform). Luckly Evo 7 came to the market on time . I mean the whole Factory was put on hold at that time. Now Mitsu is under so much finacial problems that it will take years to find out the full extent of damage. They are trying desperatly to correct this. They Hired the AMerican guy who was behind Hyundai'revivall Hence the new warrantees andstuff. Alot of experts feel that the best thing that can happen is for their parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to buy out the car making subsidierary. MHI is one of the biggest corps in the world. They make everything form TVs to planes and Super Tankers ( Oil Tankers) as well as a wide range of Military hardware for the Japanese Defense Forces. Mitsu is trying hard to win back customer loyalty . The Evo in America has really helped their image here in the states even though the car sold only 5000 units it's first year it made alot of noize. Mitsu understands this that's why they brought over the Evo and the MR because cars like that help sell other cars in the showroom. Look at VW and the Phaeton, the Phaeton is their for what ? To improve VW image and sell more Jettas thats it.If a few Pheatons get sold in the process hey the all the better.

Mitsu's sucess will hinge upon the further Polishing of a sporting image like the Evo, a redesigned Eclipse( in the process) and a flagship luxury car to replace the Diamante. Above all overall customer care and quality control. Lets hope Mistu undergoes a revivall similar to Nissan's.

Go HERE for great stuff and all related to your post..

We all know the companies struggles. I guess the bottom line is an "armchair auto exec" like Edmonds and their weak literary comparisons are unecessary..

The best is yet to come for Mitsu. None of that crap has ever stopped me from owning a Mits, running a Mitsubishi showroom or speaking of their products in a positive light for that matter..call me biased, but every company is entitled to their share of struggles. The water is fine when your not in it and consumer reference sights like Edmunds can be really brutal when it comes to rating companies..especially those in the extremely liable and exposed automotive world..

Now ROOF safety/reliabilty issues on the other hand..

Roof fix faces extra innings

Mitsubishi, the builder of Miller Park's radial, retractable roof, says it won't have a proposed plan to fix the troubling noises in the roof's pivot system until after the baseball season.

Evan Zeppos, a spokesman for the stadium district board, said Monday that the company told district officials that it needed additional time. He said the Japanese conglomerate wanted more time for its engineers in Japan to review testing and inspection reports.

Any proposed solution will have to pass muster with the Miller Park stadium district board, Zeppos said.

"We realize it may take them some additional time," Zeppos said. "They want their engineers in Japan to look at more inspection and testing. We want a resolution and a good solution."

District officials say the unexpected noises coming from the pivot system are the result of the system not working as originally designed or intended. Monitoring devices have been installed on the roof to try to pinpoint the problem.

In May, the district board and the Milwaukee Brewers announced that initial tests had confirmed that the roof could be opened and closed on a more extensive basis, specifically to accommodate fan comfort or changing weather conditions.

Zeppos confirmed that that policy would continue, but added that the district did not want the roof to be opened or closed on a ceremonial basis.

Both the district board, the Brewers and Mitsubishi have assured the public the roof is safe.

The search for a solution to the noise problem continues while the district and Mitsubishi remain legal adversaries.

Mitsubishi has gone to court, saying it is owed $87 million more than the $46 million originally agreed upon. The stadium district has filed suit against Mitsubishi, accusing the firm of negligence and poor management on the roof project.
