Question Flash and Cali smog question....

I currently have an RMR k&n intake, hks exhaust, stock cat and soon an hks dp. Im also planning on flashing the ecu to fine tune the car with my mods. Question is with the preceding set up and flash....will I still pass smog?

the K&N intake & HKS DP will give you trouble on the visual inspection, but if you didnt get a "Test Only" check, you can find the shadiest mom & pop smog shop & they may just skip the visual inspection, or look past it for a couple bucks (be aware it is a 10,000$ + fine for them if they get caught, so be subtle)

as for the Flash, its hard to say, it really depends on your tuners approach as a few points on the A/F can throw the emmisions way out of whack making it hard for your cat to do its job..... make shure you find a Smog center without a 4 wheel dyno & you will be able to do an "Unloaded" test. with no load on the motor it should have very little in the way of emmisions

also, set up an appointment with your smog center so you can get your test as soon as you walk in the door & drive very hard on you way to the shop, the hotter the cat, the better it can do its job

My 03 EVO just passed smog yesterday (Monday) when I was traded it in (got it back). My mods are HKS 264/272, AVO turboback & BR hiflow-cat, APS BOV, APS CAI, Blitz Type-R boost controller (1.5 BAR of boost), Dynoflash custom tuned, and ACT clutch.

Hope it helps.

WORKS has had a number of customers report they have passed emissions with several of our mods (including cams!).

Just curious as to why cars that are as new as the EVO are getting smogged?

When you trade in, the dealer will check to make sure smog-check pass otherwise the car cannot be sell.
