Bored at work... Any CA smog questions?
Hi everyone, as the title suggests... Im at work bored... Im a CA smog Tech... I will try to answer all your smogging needs as it comes up....
I coulda used your help a few months ago when I received a ticket for mod exhaust and mod emissions man....We'll I ended up going to SoCalevo.net and found some good info when it comes to Ca smog and emissions laws...but hey thanks for offering your time to us. I'm sure someone here could use some advice. Oh, and by the way I beat the ticket via Trial by Declaration and a nice trip to the State Ref.
I recently got pulled over, in Fontana, for my exhaust being to loud and got a fix it ticket and was told by the cop to either get a different exhaust or to put a silencer. Of course hearing the silencer option I found one but what do I do now??? It says on the ticket to have another officer inspect it or an authorized shop inspect it. Will any smog certified shop do it or who??? One problem is Im stationed in AZ and go ever so often to CA.
^Can't you just pay the fine and leave the exhaust on? I'm pretty sure that you can also take it to a courthouse and have the security guard/slash officer sign off on it. I had to do that with one of my old cars before.

^There isnt no fine just simply fix the problem. I was just wondering how I get it inspected. Of course Im going to keep the exhaust, I love its tone, and here in AZ the noise doesnt seem to bug the Police.

You lucked out man, cuz cops in Cali are pretty tough when it comes to exhausts now in days. My ticket for modified exhaust landed me a trip to the nearest State Ref, which was over 100 miles away....
supposedly a way to get one of 500 exemptions available each year but i think its for non conforming engines only. (RB26 was never sold in this country...)
4g63 is not in that category...although i could be wrong.

You're talking about 'SB100', which is an only for specially constructed vehicles. It applies just as much to the 4G63 as the RB26. If you've built your vehicle from scratch, using a combination of new and/or used parts, then you can qualify.
