The MR just doesn't offer enough more than the standard Evo to be worth trading up for.

Just to let you guys know I believe that the MR will come with a factory colored spoiler, instead of the carbon fiber and black on all of the models. I would like that since my car is gonna be white . Saw pics on Mitsubishi's web site of a RED MR AND SPOILER WAS RED TOO.

I'm debating on this too. The MR is a significant upgrade from the regular evo but I would take a huge hit on the trade in value. I think I'm going to wait another year or two till the Evo 9 comes out. by that time ill have more equity in my car and I know that the 9 will be worth the trade.

It's going to be easy for me to trade the EVO for the MR version, cause its all in my head still.

Do you really think the Evo IX will be out in just a year or two here in the US? I'm not as sure. Mitsu is having a helluva time with the new car in the WRC events this year, and many of the all- or mostly-new major systems are giving them fits. Given that it will probably take them another race season to work out the bugs, and then another two years to convert a relatively unproven race car into a street production model for Japan and Europe (both design and gov't testing take time), I doubt we'll see the Evo IX here in the US before 2008 (Fall of 2007). Just a guess.

Since the creation of the WRC class, the need for homologation has been booted. There's no need for that. That's why the current Lancer WRC car is not based on the Evo8. It's based on the Lancer. It might be closer to an Evo than it is to a Lancer, but the reality is that it's NOTHING like either car.

Previously the Evo's were simply street going versions of their WRC GroupA car - but now without the homologation requirements, they can make a WRC car without having to release road going versions to the public.

In short, their WRC car now probably has very little to do with the Evo's time release schedule (though I am sure the Evo will benefit from technologies used on the WRC car). This was true for the Evo8 too - it wasn't based on any WRC car. It was developed simply as a better and faster version of the Evo7.

EDIT: I hear the Evo9 may be based on a new platform. So we will see where it goes... the Evo has been on the CT9A chassis for over 4 years now, so it wouldn't be unfeasible to believe a new platform may be in the works (maybe something similar to the Lancer WRC? Though IMHO that thing is kinda fugly).

yup if you're going to "trade up" everytime a new widget comes out, you're never going to be happy with what you have, and you're going to end up making car payments forever...

for me, I'm going to buy the MR (I don't have an evo now) and make payments for 3 years and drive it for 8 or more years...

Alamo Autosports carries them as well as Titanium Wheel Studs. You can never have enough titanium and carbon fiber.

Alamo's web site *IS* a mess. They are a brick and mortar, real in hand inventory, direct person to person type place. More hands on, less virtual. Give them a call.
