EVO Seam Welded?

I have read that the EVO is seam welded from the Factory. Is this True?

First impression: The car is as solid as a granite headstone. Every panel in the unitized steel body is seam welded — as compared to spot welded, the practice in the regular Lancer — and the chassis is heavily reinforced from the suspension mountings to the floor pan. When you slam the door the sound is like a sledge striking a tractor tire — doompf.

No its just spot welded , Like every other car , Just a extra brace here in there . It would cost too much money to do that . Now go buy a Mig welder and stictch weld the car together and some 1" braces here and there and a welded cage . upon all of it . Now the car shouldnt move .

I was under the impression the Evo WAS seam welded...hence the chassis rigidity (beyond just the braces).

The EVO has an additional 200 welds in each door frame alone over a regular lancer. As well as extra welds throughout the car. Also, there is over 60lbs worth of additional reinforcement in the body. Areas like the base of the windsheild above the door hinges. and the B pillar. take out the glove compartment and check the 2 1/2" steel tube that spans the width of the car. Pretty impressive.

There are few places that's seam welded. Mostly on the points where it needs to be more rigid.

it's along the a frame, rear under, front under and near where the back door and the front door meets (b pillar).

word, upstateevo, although some hondas and most european performance cars have that. that steel reinforcement bar.

Indeed.

Here's a couple things from the JDM Evo VII brochure (which applies directly to the Evo VIII):

Front side member (different gauge panels mash seam welded together)
B-pillar reinforcement (different gauge panels mash seam welded together)
