I would not be afraid of anyof them as my car sits now. Stock for stock especially from a roll half of the cars listed would win unless the driver really sucked. Just my .02

I biggest sleeper is Volvo S60R. I own a Volvo S60R and let me tell you I smoked my friend in his M5 like he was nothing. Be carefull with those, not only are they fast or really fast, but they can handle really good. I know that there are going to be people jumping all over what I said but, if you want to listen you listen if you don't well thats your problem. I sold Volvo cars and Bmw for more than 2 years and I had the privelage to drive the M5 and M3 and I can tell you I was not impressed. People would bring in their cars amost 2-3 times a month for engine and mechnical problems. BMW breaks down more then Ford used to. Really brand new car broke down every week. Do some research and you will see....

But once again you are in a Evo 8 baby. If you know how to drive I promisse that you will have no competition. I destroied STI and S4 and BMW hahahah. I am very serious. All you have to do to your Evo is Free it up. Exhaust baby !!!! take off the restrictions from the car. Let the beast free. Then you will be King. Evo 8 is a pure race car.....

REMEMBER !!!!! "Take care of your car; And the car will take care of you !!!!!!" Go kick some American and European A$$...............

Pretty much all of these cars are going to be better than the evo from a roll, except the STI and the R32. The M3 runs about 2/10s quicker in the quarter, and thats from a dig. From a roll the RWD, 8000 redline, and 6-speed transmission all combined with the 333 hp are going to put a hurt on the evo. Similar for the M5 but even more so. The 350Z/G35 are heavier and have nominally more power, but they do have a 6 speed, RWD, and a normally aspirated powertrain - the evos must build boost from a roll and thats how lots of evos lose. The STI, Boxster would all be a good race. The R32 sucks so I wouldn't even consider it. Same with the Acura performance-wise. An evo might take an SL500 from a roll, and definately from a dig. But the SL600 beats up on modded cobras. They have a 5.5 liter (actually slightly less, but thats what Merc lists) twin-turbo V12 putting out a factory rated 493 HP and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque, though I've heard of some owners seeing that amount or greater at the wheels on dynos, so maybe Mercedes isn't telling the whole truth. I've also heard of easy 12's in the quarter, and high 11's with no more than a chip.

No one mentioned the SL65, with 608 HP and 793 ft.-lbs. of torque, those are 11's easy from the factory.

I launched @ about 4K-5K rpm I could do lil better if I launch harder, but I didn't wanna ruin my clutch just yet and I was probably lil softer on gas too since it's still a new car...

Most of the AMG cars from benz are a handful even for an Evo that is mildly modified. These cars are no joke, gobs of torque.

yeh, I have to say about 90% of evo's out there will have hard time keeping up with the new STOCK E55 AMG. I think the new vettes gonna have hard time keeping up with that car.

BMW z4M is coming out, smaller M3 is coming out too with a lot of weight reduction same engine, Crossfire SRT-6 could be something to look out for and SLK E55 or E32 should be feared as well. Got the v8 supercharger in a roadster.

From MB forums there was alot of talk on the HP figures from the S/SL/CL 55 AMG and the S/SL/CL 600, amazingly enough the SC'd V8 had the same HP as a twin turboed V12, members found out the HP on the dyno was much more than the factory claims and they settled down to that it's a marketing thing, the AMG being the sporty face of Mercedes's models and 600 being the flagship luxury segment and the fact that the Maybach had to have all the glory with the most with it's TT V12. But now the S65 came and it has more Hp than the Maybach.
I heard once that marketing wise their HP is restricted like that so it doesn't shadow the more exclusive model, like the BMW 760 at 450 HP (it's N/A though) cause the Phantom is 500ish :S

I guess with drag radials any 55 AMG merc or 600 - for the traction issue (provided you can find people who race not cruzin) can really pose a threat to everyone

Anyways speaking of MBz i just have to go offtopic with this: http://www.treynor.com/S600_Mods.htm
You probably heard of Ben Treynor, if you haven't his S600 absolutley flies, he ran 11.58 on drag radials in his heavy automatic german vessel! check out the site it's really amazing.

[ off topic ]
I keep reading constantly from car reviews that MB's aren't 'driver-involving', like this review of the E55 AMG with the new M5 and Maserati Quattroporte, the E55 had loads of power but was said to be 'disconnected' from the driver and the road, not enough feedback and such, whilst the BMW was more sporty, you really feel driving and it was very balanced (nothing close to the feedback you'd get from an EVO though, cause the car's ride was still smooth and at a luxurious state)

So maybe BMW doesn't want to compete HP-wise since the figures are pretty high, that is alot of power already!

BMW still call their cars the ultimate driving machines. Comparing the E55 AMG with the new M5 (and even old) BMW surpasses MB with the Joy Of Driving (i'm not a bmw owner though, nor a benz owner )
