actually the stock seat weighs approx. 40 lbs. , switching to a lightweight racing seat actually does help alot

 

Just a brief followup on the thread.. First of all, the stock seats are heavy!! Just got my sparco evo driver's seat in today - so much lighter! As far as my question about the roof goes, it can be done. I saw a Porche 911 today that had it done. the metal roof panel (including the sunroof) was cut out and replaced with a carbon fiber panel. Saved almost 100 lbs off the top of the car. You couldn't tell from the outside at all since it was painted etc, and the carbon fiber panel was made off of the oem roof. Very slick and no loss of rigitity as the frame was not touched. I'm likely going to do this once my attention turns to weight reduction.

 

do you happen to know how much it cost the guy to replace his roof with CF?

 

A lot cheaper than I thought it would be. I'm pretty serious about this. He's going to check with Mitsu about buying a roof and go from there. I'll keep ya posted!
