Trying to decide...

Hey guys,

How much better is the 05' over the 03' Evo? I've had my 03' for only 8k miles, and I love it. But my dealer is trying to put me into an MR or poss an 05' Evo "for a deal". I'm intrigued because the New Evo gets 3yr/45k maintenence covered, and the dealership has a free tires for life program. I also wouldn't mind getting a car with more hp and torque (I know it's not a LOT more, but it's supposed to make a decent difference). With all these things considered, what do you guys think about a fair deal for a trade-in (for either the 05' Evo, or the MR)? My car has 8k miles, and is in perfect condition.

BTW...I should mention that the dealers here have been selling the MRs with a 2k markup over MSRP. I've already told the dealer that I wouldn't pay a penny markup...have many people been successful in getting their MRs at MSRP or less?

If they're Advans, then that's no small deal. I'd take that in a second... at $200-250 per tire (retail, of course) that's $1000 every year or so!

i'm sure the dealers aren't gonna do that. They're $1000 + (mounting balancing) every 20k miles or less.

But if they do that I'm sure that's why there is the 3k markup.

Yeah, I think they replace the tires every 20k miles or so, at best. But the maintenence is a pretty big deal to me too - I DO change my oil every 3k miles, but why not have them do it every other time??

is that including the cost of fluids (tranny) and changing the spark plugs, timing belts, radiator flush, brake fluid flush and engine tuning?

Or is that cover basically simple stuff that you could do at home?

It covers all scheduled maintenence. The reason I'm asking this is because my dealer is giving me the impression that there will be little out of pocket difference because of some program that they're doing with Mitsubishi. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd be willing to part with my car, unless they're talking about VERY little difference. I'm happy with my car. I got my existing car after having problems with the first EVO I bought.

Are tires covered

I think the warrantee is simular to the one on my BMW Every thing except the tires are covered cause the are a wear item. I may be wrong but free tires sounds to good to be true.

I believe the new Evo's have 6-7 more hp. And the tires for life program sucks. They HAVE to do scheduled maintenance every so often, which I believe you have to pay for. Personally, I like doing maintenance stuff myself b/c I know exactly what's being put into my car and I don't have to worry about taking it somewhere.

i've got a grand idea... buy the car, trade tires with me, then get yourself some new tires!

The free tires part is correct. Mitsubishi is offering the scheduled maintenence offer, but the dealer is covering free tires for life.

This is just a really difficult decision! I read a post a few days ago, where most people said they wouldn't bother upgrading because there's not enough difference...and I would agree if the dealer offers (insults) me with a 22k trade-in value, or something. But I'm getting the impression that the dealer's willing to part with an exchange for under 5k for an 03 evo - 05 evo switch, and maybe 9-10k for an 03 evo- 05 MR switch. I checked my insurance, and that may also be a bit of a problem...$169 increase in premium for an 05' evo, $227 increase for an MR for a 6 month premium.

I suspect the dealer is gonna try to rape you on your trade. Regardless, I'd wait for the IX coming out next year. AYC and 6 spd standard (I hope).
