Transfer oil & transaxle oil question.

I have used 2 qt mtl 1 qt of mt-90 and oem in rear diff and tc for 3000 miles now. Everything works well when it is warmed up. But with temps below 30 degrees shifting is very notchy for the first 5 minutes or so.

One thing you can do here is to just fill the t-case back up w/ OE fluid, and take it in for warranty work. :X
Hey all,
I use Redline MT-90 in the transaxle, and NEO RHD (GL5) in the rear diff and TC. On Nasioc many WRX guys had good experience with the NEO, since the WRX uses GL5 in rear diff and tranny. People there had problems with Redline, but I think that's because it's GL-4 and the WRX should have GL5. As stated, I would stick with a GL4 fluid in the transaxle for our evos.
Car shifts great and I'm at 30K miles...
Take care,

Seems that you may be slightly incorrect, this is not the case with all GL5 lubricants, including the Royal Purple I've used. Not trying to call you out or be an a$$, just wanted to clarify that it will NOT hurt the tranny synchros.

"Max-Gear® possesses both API GL-5 and GL-4 certification. Max-Gear® is formulated with Royal Purple's proprietary, Synslide® additive technology to provide the exceptional film strength necessary for GL-5 applications, yet it is noncorrosive to soft metals found in manual transmissions that specify a GL-4 rated lubricant."

From http://www.stealth316.com/misc/pennz...oilsummary.pdf
* API GL-5 GEAR OILS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH API GL-4 GEAR OILS.
* The extreme pressure (EP) additives in most gear oils contain sulfur-phosphorus compounds that can be corrosive to certain “yellow metal” components, if present at levels higher than recommended by the equipment manufacturer. “Yellow metals”, such as copper and brass, are found in transmission synchronizers.

Sorry, didn't quote the whole thing. But then again, if you had clicked the link and read it then you'd know that. Bottom line is the Royal Purple GL5 Max-Gear is fine for the tranny.
From their FAQ.....
"My vehicle's transmission specifies an API GL-4 gear oil. Can I use Max-Gear®?
Yes. Max-Gear® possesses both API GL-5 and GL-4 certification. I just got my car back with new transfer case yesterday.
Drove it for maybe 2 miles and noticed a strange -metallic sound (buzz).
It is kind of quiet sound.
Comes on at different speed.
At over 50 mph it is hard to hear it because it gets loud in the car but it is there.
At lower speed it comes on and off. Sometimes it is louder than before.
You would think that there is something loose somewhere – like a loose screw in the middle of something.
Obviously I think it comes from a TC because that was the only thing dealer was working on.
When I take my foot off the gas or accelerate the sound comes on and off.
It really appears at any speed but I hear it best at around 25mph.
What do you think it may be?
What could go wrong?
Does a TC need a brake-in?
Thanks for your help guys.
