Might be as simple as a gasket in your exhaust being blown and making the sound, or heat sheild under the car resonating by itself or against something.

Does it only happen when you are in motion, or can you rev the engine to different RPMs while stopped and hear it too?

I hope that is it.
A little different sound though- I think

I have not tried reving the engine while parked - will do that when I get home.

I'm a bit of an auto-hypochondriac as well.

I used Redline MT-90 in the transaxle. I posted this on other threads, but when Winter hit it got really notchy. I can barely put it into gear for the first 10 minutes of driving. I contacted Redline about the problem, but no response yet. Hopefully there is something I can do to fix to problem.

In any case, if you find other people with good luck using something other than Redline, I'd do that. I won't use this Redline again. Just my opinion though...

Well this is what I've have in my shop.

A pile of ring & pinions from the EVO-8 that all have damaged teeth from using the wrong oil.

Time to rebuild a transfer case....

Just to add to the discussion......the MR trans takes an entirely different oil than the regular EVO.

Redline in Transaxle

Got a response from Dave at Redline. He said to put 2 qts. MTL and one qt. MT-90. This matches the required viscosity better and give better cold weather protection. Plus, it's synthetic like all Redline. I'm just pissed because now I'm going to drain 2 qts. MT-90 to put in the MTL. The work never ends...

I do not want to take my car to Mitsu.
Is there a chance I could buy OEM oil somwhere else or am I forced to put different one in?
Don't listen to that schmuck. The tranny and transfer case fluids are totally different specs. GL-5 in the main tranny is a NO NO! GL-4 in the transfer case is a NO NO!

It's cheap insurance to change the drivetrain fluids every 5000 miles.

OK it is me again.
Another question.
Does TC make whining noise when spinning wheels (in snow)??
I know it should not make that noise when driving but what about spinning wheels.
It is loud (whines) when I do that.
Is that normal?
Or is that when it is accually trying to do its job?

Please help
This car drives me nuts.
My next post may be in "for sale" forum.

The whole story is I have about 100 miles on new TC and I hear this noise.

Going back to Diaqueen SAE 90 - is it safe to use it in low (freezing) temperature?
Should it not be SAE 75 - 85?
