I want to change my transfer oil and transaxle oil.
I am thinking of putting the same oil that Mitsubishi is putting in.
Is that the best way to do it, or should I look into something else?

OEM DiaQueen SAE90 in transfer case and synchromesh in the tranny.

 

If you are happy with the way your car is now the OEM is fine. I have had good results with penz synchromesh in the trans.. have used Red Line in a Mitsu trans with good results too.

 

Well, I do have a second gear grind from time to time but I am not sure if changing to a different oil would help

Some people recomended redline oil, but I heard some bad things about it.

I just want to make sure I do not put anything that will make my car work worse.

To be safe I think OEM will be the best, but I would consider other oil if it is to make a difference.

What do you guys think?

 

I have all Royal Purple, it seems OK. Next time I'll prolly go back to OEM for the tranny. It's a B|SCH to get it in there though, get some help you'll need it!

I just called Mitsu dealer and was told they will not sell me their oil.
They say they can only change it in their service dep.
Is that true or is the guy talking bull****
Also, he says that they are using the same oil for transaxle and transfer- ????
I do not want to take my car to Mitsu.
Is there a chance I could buy OEM oil somwhere else or am I forced to put different one in?

 

I'm pretty sure you can get it at any parts department. Did you talk to the service, or parts dept? Try another dealer, and just go straight to the parts dept. Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the same. I have the same type / weight Royal Purple in both right now. Royal Purple seemed to make the tranny a little more clunky shifting when it's cold though, that's why I'll go back to OEM next. Although a friend of mine was having grinding issues (because he waited WAY too long to change fluid), and he went with Syncromesh and says that it's great.

Do you guys know what the OEM oil is called and how much of it do I need to have to change both transaxle and transfer?

1.5 qts for rear diff
1.5 qts for the front
3 qts for the tranny

If I remember correctly, heck I should it's only been a month or so!

If you are anywhere near Atlanta, call Andrew at Dyno4mance ( http://www.Dyno4mance.com ). He helped me out with mine, and has done this a bunch. He has a really slick way to get the fluid in easily.

 

OK, I just had an transmision oil changed - i took about 20 min and 3 qts of oil.
Now
I also had a transfer oil changed (transfer case I understand) and it only took less than half a quart???
Is that what it should be?
I used the same oil - as mitsu recomended - is that ok though????

Please answer these questions for me

Seems like everybody says (including mitsu service) that I need 6 qts for it all
Where did they take that number from?
Do they mean front and rear diff - wchich is not recomended to change until like 60000 miles?

In the How-To write-up on this, it says the transfer case and rear diff each require 0.58 qts. I'm pretty sure that's how much it takes.

 

That appears to be correct. Sorry I told you too much, at least you had enough!

I used the same exact thing in my tranny / front and rear diffs. Others have done the same, so you should be OK.
