torn between the VIII and IX

right now, im torn between getting the evo VIII or the evo IX. obviously, the IX would be the choice. but the current GSR evo msrp is on the edge of prices for me (with the sun, sound, leather package). I could possibly get the VIII really soon (as in this or next month) or wait til the IX comes out. but the only thing with waiting for the IX is that i dunno how my financial status will be by then when it comes out in fall of 2005. (UNLESS it comes out in spring, which i really doubt). (if i can get the evo now, i will be able to maintain it) and i dont want to miss the opportunity to get the evo. Cuz 8 months is a LONG time to wait. but i dunno . any help would be nice

Ge it now. The next one will surely be over 35k and the extra features will not be all that much better. The 05' GSR is already very close to perfection. you can easily increase the power output beat the stock evo 9

true, but werent they going to filter down the car? RS, GSR, some upper version with MR stuff). Cuz i would think that price jumping from 30,699 to 35+ would be too big of a price jump on a newer version of the same car. but then again, the MR is 34+ but then again, wouldnt the GSR price being 30,699 and the next GSR at 35+ would be a bit too much of a price jump? i am really seroiusly thinking to get the evo VIII cuz the IX isnt changed too much from the VIII. Iono, i guess i'll wait for some more replies. but thanks for your advice pharmd98

IX will come with 300+hp and torque. Better engine and all the options from the MR will be standard in Evo IX.

If you have the patience, I'd wait. In the car market, you generally get more for less as time goes by. Some other new cars may also appear on the scene that interest you more.

Nothing firm has come out about the IX yet. Everyone "speculates" that it will be similar to the MR but unless you are a Mitsu employee in the know, I'm sure no one here has a clue what the IX will have or how much it will be.
The same thing happened before the current MR came out. Everyone started hyping it up and biting onto every rumor as fact. I think a lot of people built up the MR to something it never could have been here in the US. Don't do the same with the IX.
Wish in one hand and poop in the other. I'd buy an 05 base model VIII and stay with that.

Maybe worth waiting

I doubt if the IX will be a "step back" in the line up, and variable valve timing maybe worth it if you want to keep it stock for a while. Aftermarket will need to do some R&D on the IX so don't expect too many engine mods (if that's your thing) out of the gate.

IMO getting vehicles that are near or at the end of they're current design are often less problematic and have the most mods available compared to redegined/next gen versions.

you sure you want to miss the possiblity of having an MIVEC 4g63?
when you see an 9 on the street you gonna be asking yourself why didn't you wait for it
cuz base on your words deep inside of you wants the 9 more then the 8
then 8 is just a facotr that trys to tempt you

I was in the same position, and then I thought that "tomorrow is not promised" and that I could be dead by the time the new car comes and someone else will be enjoying my cash. So I went out and bought a Tarmac Black VIII. I would have bought a MR8 but the dealers are getting $39,000.00 (MSRP plus markup) or $43,000.00 out the door on them and won't budge an inch. :-(

That is too damn funny, but true

Oh yeah and don't think the Mitsu stealerships won't be dee-acks about the price and mark up with the IX.

I'd at least wait until more solid info on the IX was out before making a decision. I haven't seen anything that makes me feel like I KNOW what it is going to really be. I'd wait to buy the VIII (which I have...but it's an 03) if the IX was right around the corner, then you can pick up either (VIII probably pretty cheap once the IX is really on the way) depending on what the IX really ends up being. In a couple years, the IX will be the previous model, just like the VIII...and we still all (ok most) love the VII and just wish we could get them here...so newer isn't always better.

Hey Bro thanks.

BTW, I'm in San Diego. If you see an old blk guy driving a blk 05 VIII with a big grin on his face, that's me.

how can you be torn between a car that exists here and one that no one is even sure that is coming here. ? wait all you want, i think you'd just be wasting your time. or by the time when and IF the 9 comes out, people will be talking about a 10... why not wait for the 10? or 11? or 12? the evolution is always "evolving" so newer models will always be improved upon the older versions.
