EVO + snow?
i can vouch for driving in the snow w/ 19K mile advans... uhhh.. not good.. it goes, it turns for the most part.. but it doesn't stop.. i was just driving around my neighbor-hood to see how bad the advans actuallly are and almost died... even drivng around a little is dangerous so i don't recomend it.. ive retired the evo for now when it snows and i drive a hyundai elantra to get me palces.. it sucks but i love my baby and don't want to hurt her...
Im using conti extremes and they handle snow very well. Driving on 2" snow, the car handled real well and has some good bite. I was trying to drift around in a empty parking lot and it was kinda hard with these tires and fresh snow. Only way for me to drift on fresh snow was using the power over technique. However when the snow melted, and it was slushy on the road, I was able to break the rear end loose without much trouble. Anyways Im really satisfied with these tires, except for decent dry ground traction. Couple more months and my advans will be back on, no worries.
On Christmas I discovered that a *light* dusting of snow is enough to give an EVO zero brakes on the advans. I just had Pilot Alpins mounted. They seem to work very well in the dry, and I'm eager for some real snow so I can go play.
^ all four, you can screw up your drivelines using two different circumfrence tires on a four wheel drive car. i havent met snow yet, and probably wont, but i am ordering new all seasons this week to do a litle better in the wet. you have to be careful though cause there are some conditions that "require snow chains" and my dad actually got stopped to make sure that he was carrying them in eastern oregon (just outside of Idaho) a few weeks back. the werent letting people continue without at least having them in your car. good news is that les schwab will take back any chains that you buy from them and dont use once the winter is over.
Yeah, snow tires for sure, even non-Advan High-Performance Summer tires are bad, I live in Utah and took mine up with it's Kuhmo Ecsta's on and i made it up and down the canyon alive, but it was scary as hell. I've got the blizzak LM-22's on now, and they are amazing, great in snow, great in water, decent as possible without studs on ice, and pretty good for snow tires in the dry. If you have the means do summer/winter tires, if not then the Contisport Contacts or whatever all-seasons are probably the best.
