EVO Daily Driver
The Chicago TriState traffic is just too much for her in the winter. One day in the snow, o2 sensor shorted, although, just miracously came back to life. If someone can explain that one, I would appreciate it. I just love when 40+ temps come through, and the salt is gone!
The evo is my daily driver. Compared to our 03 cobra mustang (recently sold), the evo is a killer daily driver (it drives well in the rain, turns/breaks/accelerates well and has 4 doors). I love this car.
That is why I got it. I used to drive a (POS) mustang the EVO is so sweet to drive every day. Besides, there are idiots down here is South Fla who think it is a "riced up" Lancer ES and try to test me. The last joker was driving a Bullitt. Morons, all of them. But much respect for the STi, that and cars with the funny blue lights on top are about the only ones I won't laugh at as I drop a gear and laugh up the highway.
i love it for a daily driver!i have put on 22,000 miles in the last 7 months. everyone filled with joy.( except the ones when i had the stock advans and tried to drive in the snow)
Well this is my only car. Put on 30k in the first year of ownership. Comute is 50miles each way everyday. Not including side trips. I average 25mpg (when i dont step on it). But the gas prices is 1.95 for high octaine so it is getting lower for now. I also average one oil change every month and a half.
Oh well
I do have something else to dive if I want to. BUT I LOVE DRIVING THIS THING EVERYDAY!
Its like a new race everyday: every off ramp, on ramp, straight, stop light and freeway pass! I Can't HELP IT!

Use mine as a daily driver. 2 1/2 months old & already has 4,500 miles on it. I just love driving my Evo. If I have the money I will buy 2 Evo's, one as a toy & one as a daily driver.
In the year that I considered buying an Evo, I worked myself up into a lather when reading all the warnings about how ill-suited the Evo was for daily driving. This came from posters on this forum, car magazines such as Car & Driver, and even Consumer Reports for goodness' sake! The words were ominous:
"Bone-jarring ride"
"Cheap interior"
"Noisy"
"Lack of range due to a tiny gas tank"
"Long trips are impossible because of a lack of cruise control"
"Weak clutch"
It got me so worried that I almost bought an RX-8. Boy am I glad that I didn't make that horrendous mistake! After one year of ownership and 13,000 miles of daily driving, I'm hear to report that the Evo makes an absolutely fine everyday automobile. I haul my kids to school, pick up groceries, take my wife out on "dates", drive to the beach, and use the car exactly like it is supposed to be used. My Evo has performed flawlessly. Other than a squeaky front passenger door panel, I haven't had a single problem with it. I will say that replacing the Advans (at 10,000 miles, not because they needed to, but because of the upcoming winter weather) with Pirelli P Zero Nero All Seadon tires smoothed and quieted the ride quite a bit. Now my wife's CR-V is noiser inside. The ride is what I'd characterize as "stiff", but not nearly as bad as the dire words above. What do they want anyway? Floating on air, like a Buick? I completely replaced the factory sound system and delight in good tunes from Sirius satellite radio. The floor mats got replaced with more robust pieces and I got a better feeling shift knob. To become a little more stealthy I did remove the carbon fiber wing and replaced the clear tail lights with JDM units. No speeding tickets yet. I now cruise around with a car that generally goes unnoticed by anyone other than true car nuts ("Hey man, it that a real Evo?!"), happy with the entire driving experience and the car's impressive interior room. My kids tell me that I have the coolest car of any dad in their school, although they're still a little sore about the wing removal. I don't care -- I drive an Evo and love it to death. I'm not out to impress anyone, just enjoy the car for what it really is: one of the greatest driver's cars ever made. It provides so much pleasure just carving down a winding mountain road on a sunny fall afternoon, knowing that you are in complete command. The car responds to the slightest input almost telepathically. Pure heaven.
That said, would I change anything for daily driving? Oh yeah. I really would like an electronic trunk release triggered by the remote control. I'm in the trunk so many times a day with kids and schlepping around my laptop that I would use thiat feature a lot. Also, I kind of agree with the cruise control comments. I don't use cruise often, but on hour+ trips, it would be nice to rest my foot on something other than the accelerator. Other gallon in the gas tank would be nice, but that's no biggie.
Net: this car, despite what you hear from others, is a great daily driver. We all know its modability and its track performance. But it does pretty darn well in the urban jungle too.

when I first bought the car I was going to use it every day so I got the silver because I wanted to be incognito but 1 week after buying it I got transfered to a different store now I drive 125 mils a day and I dont want to put 40k a year on my evo so now it is a weekend car.
When I first bought the Evo, my intentions were to pick up some el-cheapo car to be a daily driver. It took me 4 months to actually get a cheap daily driver. During that 4 months, I almost got bored with the Evo...I was already looking to trade it in on something else. Then, after getting the civic, I dropped the car off at the dealer to get the syncros repaired. That took 36 days!!! After I got the car back, it was like a whole new beast!
The best go-fast-bit that I bought was a slow car to drive Monday-Friday... and I only spent ~$900 on the civic.
My advice: get another cheap car to drive daily...You'll love the Evo even more when you drive it!

It used to be my daily driver but I didn't want to see it slowly getting killed by Michigan winters, so I bought a Focus SVT to drive to work. When the snow gets really bad, I'm back in the evo, though. WIth the ContiExtremeContacts it's great in the snow, though my coworkers wonder why I'd drive my "fast car" to work when the weather is bad, not knowing the extreme prowess of the Evo.
I daily drove my EVO for about 4 months while my GSX was being demodded/repaired back into a daily driver. While I can daily drive my EVO all the time, I prefer to keep it as my leisure vehicle. Now, I only drive my EVO 2-3 times per week. It's nice not having to drive my EVO to malls, school, and movie theaters.
I am currently looking to replace my GSX w/ a beater civic. I drive about 25-30k miles a year, which means $$$ for gas and tires if my EVO was my only car. Having a 2nd car on my insurance policy saves me about $6-700 per year also.
