first 1000 mi(after break in) free oil change?

did ur dealer pay for the first oil change right after break in at 1000 mi? i have an 05 w/ free maintenance for 45t mi but does not say whether the first 1000 mi is free......called up Mitsu and they said only the first 5000 mi is free, not the one right after break in, w/c is different from what my salesperson told me.....

Only every 5K miles. They cheap for good reason. they got to save money for all the broken transmissions.

Do you have any idea how much metal is floating in the oil that can't be captured by the filter? Oh well, I guess it's your car.

Until I have visual proof of an actual evo engine where the oil was changed at 5k and it is showing flakes of metal in the oil, I would say it is pure BS. I've gone through too many new cars and at first I believed at what you're saying then I checked the oil and did not find crap in it.

The 1k miles is just for them to check the car over to make sure that everything is still ok. For those who had their 5k miles service, how did that go. I have to take mine in today but I am very worried about them damaging my rims while taking it off for the tire rotation.

I have an MR, I changed my oil at 1000 miles there were plenty of metal flakes at the bottom of my oil pan. I had a strong magnet on the bottom though. So I would believe this to be true about the oil containing lots of metal flakes during the break in period. Change the oil yourself at the 1,000 mile mark. Then feel at the bottom of the drain pan with your fingers. it felt like tiny bits of sand but when I looked at it closely on my fingers the particles were much smaller than sand pieces but were still there.

Just thought I would put in my (2) cents.

Derek

i was also told the first one was free, but it wasnt. ive had the 5k and 10k done now, and it went fine. no problems with rotation or anything. i have to drive about 90 miles to the dealer, over a small coastal mountain pass and when i got there my car was so dirty, they even washed it and vacummed it for me. no extra miles, and i watched them do the whole thing.

if you're worried about them doing some damage to your car, just ask to watch them do it.

Yeah, I bought my car out of town and the salesperson told me that the 1000 mile oil change was free. Mitsu in my hometown did do it for free but when it came time to do the oil again at 4000 they wanted to charge me and i said i wanted them to change it for the 5k service and they said they already gave me the free the first time for the 5k service. I told them what my salesperson said that it was free for the break in period, they wouldnt honor it, go figure!!

I will only the 5k done & do the rest myself because after this I will put my exhaust, boost controller & afc on the car. But this is what the person at the dealer told me when I made an appointment. He asked me if I had my oil change done & I told him yes at 2,500 by me & he told me that Mitsu is very strict on having the maintenance done on the vehicle at the dealer & if I dont do this it will void my warranty. What a BS. I will see what happens after I get my 5k service done. They better not say anything about my turbo timer & boost gauge.
