BTW, I paid 29,100 on a typical 31,000 price tag, forget what it was exactly. Dont let them jerk you around, be patient.

I have an 03, purchase in mid 03. Thing changed a bit, but here goes:

Dont let them tell you anything other than what you know you have to pay, for the car, the registration and taxes for your state. The car is not a limited edition, one color is not more limited than another and decide on a few colors you can live with before you walk in. Also, realize you DONT need the car right away There are many dealerships that will quote you a price over the net. Search for one in the local area or state whos advertising good deals, and see what you can come up with. Print these out, and go to multiple dealerships. The key is dont let them pressure you into anything ,but dont be so decided on one color or model than you let them search for you. If they have to find it, they will feel they HAVE you and start jerking you around from there.

Make sure your credit is good and you have enough money to pay for the taxes. Go to peoplefirst.com, put in the amount for the car, the length of the loan and multiple interest rates, write them down so you have a reference to what should be paid monthly for a certain type of loan. Payments strangely go up when they start punching the calculator, so have a lot of reference when you start the number crunch.

Dont negotiate for just the price of the car. Negotiate for the interest rate, press them for a better one at all costs. Negotiate with the payment in mind also. But, make sure you are comfortable, unintimidated and walk freely, speak freely and be very confident with whomever you speak to. I was 22 when I bought my car, by myself, dressed in a T-Shirt that was dirty, my "Holy Jeans" (torn to ****) and rolled up on my beater bike. I had the car in two hours, with a check I wrote that couldn't be cashed right away until I got paid that friday, all because I didn't care one way or the other if I got the car then, or ten years from that point. The sticker was 31,200 with wheel locks, floor mats and a "limited edition" mark up for the ever popular silver color. I got it for 29,100. Good luck, PM me with any specific questions.

thanks for the pointers!!! i am in no hurry to buy one, I was just thinking of taking advantage of the last few inventories of 04 VIII's which may sell for less than msrp- I really prefer the blue- before i talk to any dealer I plan to have a definite amount and %financing, which is at least $500 below msrp( should i start at that amount?) and no more than 3.9% for 60 mos.(is that attainable thru a dealership financing, I have above 700 credit rating)- shld i even mention the color i am looking for or just hope they offer me that color- did u have to haggle for the price that u got?

I was just contacted by a dealer- he quoted me $30205 for a black( I wanted a blue or white) 04 VIII w/ the sunsound leather package, and that price even includes destination charge- it's a pretty good deal right, he even gave me a tentative 4.24% 60 mos, that wld give me a $419 monthly( w/ tax and doc fees), I am really aiming for a less than $400 monthly, but that sounds pretty good doesn't it? but really dont want that color- he said that's $500 below invoice

Dont know if by this time you've bought one or not. Keep in mind that 05 is way better than the 04's.
i Got my 05 white GSR at set price 30,000 out the door. Tho my interest rate is way high and monthly payment is around $530.
if you have good credit age and record you would get much better deal than i have. or if you live in South Cali PM me if u need the dealer info
