Pics of me driving sideways on ice in some pimp 15" wheels (56k, take a hike)
Did the Northeast Audi Winter Driving Evant at the Team O'Neill Rally Driving School in Franconia, NH this past weekend and, yeah, it's as much fun as it looks.
If you haven't done an event like this and you posess snow tires, SIGN YOUR @$$ UP IMMEDIATELY! This is the most fun you will have in a car with your pants on, period. Teaches you TONS about car control and what to do once you go past that level of grip that we take for granted. As they say at the school: If you can't stick it, slide it!
What you learn there, you take with you into anything that you drive and it will keep you out of trouble when you experience a blowout, hit black ice, have a drunk friend yank the ebrake on you, etc.
To answer any questions, yes those are 15x7's. Compomotive TH3 rally wheels, if anyone cares. No, I don't have front Brembo's anymore. The front calipers I got from AMS as takeoffs from an Evo VII RS. The caliper is the same as a 2G Eclipse GSX, but the bracket is unique to the RS gravel spec. Rotors and pads are OE Mitsu junk. Suspension is stock...again.
I can't express how much fun this was and the weird looks I got when I pulled into a lot full of UrQ's, A4's and A6's. No attitudes, though they were wondering where I got all my traction from. Car did amazingly, all things considered, and I only smacked it into a snowbank once! If you have the opportunity to do this once, I highly recommend it...although your wallet might get significantly lighter after the rally/road racing bug bites you.

OLD??? I'm 24. Watch it, Junior. :P
I did a 2 day school in Steamboat Springs, CO last winter and a lot of raod events this year. What you learn on the ice prepares you for when someone drops fluids in front of you on the track. You react instead of thinking, which is good if you develop the right habits.
There's nothing hear NYC that I know of (I'm from Westchester), but find a deserted parking lot during a blizzard in the middle of nowhere and practice, practice, practice!
BMWCCA does Ice Racing Events in New Hampshire and you can always do a Driver's School at Team O'Neill. Or you could come out to Steamboat with me in 3 weeks (Click here for info) . I'll be there for a week driving on a 12 turn ice road course, trying like hell to keep the car going in the appropriate direction.
