"CLUNK" WTF???

For those of you in the frozen abyss like me, does your Evo occasionally make "CLUNK" noise starting cold to reverse gear? That's what my 04'RS did this morning, twice!

Aside from this rude awakening, the car drives fine otherwise...

Is this regularly observed with Evos in freezing conditions?

Mine makes a million new noises in the "frozen fogged abyss" that is the Great Salt Lake Valley as opposed to when it's not cold and foggy...one of which is a sort of creaking clunk noise that it likes to do in just about any gear, i've been told it's just my suspension

I hope it's the suspension causing the "CLUNK" and not the rear diff.!

FYI, I do have Eibach lowered springs and I do notice that it occasionally tend to make bottoming out "CREAKING" noise in the rear...

But this "CLUNK" was totally unexpected!

It may have to do with the e-brake releasing. When It's cold the e-brake my stick a little. You may be hearing it release.

Had this happen

i had this happen a few times.. specially when snows around to the best of my knowledge i think its the brakes. Car kinda Bogs a little then "CLUnk" and pops loose. I think its Hot calipers melting snow then when u let it sit the pads Freeze to the caliper or something seems to only do it if i let it sit a day. not if i go into the mall or something. So seems like it needs time to refreeze.

Or that..... only thinks its brakes becuase kinda have to rev it a little to make it move
sometimes over 2.5k instead of coasting off around 1k

As Beefyevo suggested it is the calipers freezing on the rotors...

you don't need to live in the north pole for this to happen, wash your car and don't drive it till the next date, same thing will happen, it is just the brake pad getting stuck against the brake rotor.
