Man, I took differential equations in high school and all I got was a 1987 Prelude Si. (BTW: I graduated in 2000)

Wassup Derick. yeha there is alot to be learned when driving. Although i am 19 I got a lot of driving skills under me. I drove my POS Geo Prizm. Dont drive that anymore because of radiator problems. I now drive a 99 Rx300(I bought with my own Cash). Almost got hit by a School bus the other day but quick thinking told em to slam on my gas before that thing rearended the crap outta me. Anyways dont be listening to any of these people flamin at you. You know what u are capable of handling and if you feel confident with manual tranny than go for it. Good grades and taking high classes doesnt necesarily mean you are mature, it just means u are inteligent. I know a lot of AP kids who are the most immatrue people. If you are going to be paying for your car than is your schol work gonna be affected, The answer will be yes cause u will be working your azz off for the payments, insurance, gas, maintenance. Is a car worth your education and your future life??? I am getting a evo or RA casue i already messed up my education but will still be getting my degree, will just take longer. I am basically working 1 fulltime job and 1 part time job to get some money together casue im only taking one class this semester. As stated earlier if u can handle the car than buy it and just buy it anyways even if your mom doesnt approve. Maybe slip 500 under table to the salesperson so he can tell your mom the car will be 24K instead of 24.5K. thats my brightest idea. Ohh yeah when u do get an evo dont get caught racing and if u are trying to focus in school dont get into the Racing scene casue it can mess up you education.
Thanks for all the supporters, but I guess I'm not getting a Evo anyways after all this.
I'm probably going to be looking deeper into Hondas, such as the old gen hatchback or the new gen preludes. Peace everybody.

well that was anticlimactic.
and if i were deciding on an evo, i'd wait till the 9 comes out; i made a vow to myself not to buy another evo till we get a full-spec one here... but that's just me.
anyway, i'm not going to flame about people getting cars from their parents... but i do have to say i feel a little more unsafe every day driving around.
i'm sorry but when you say BS like "i pay for every damn penny for everything to do with car" how the hell are you going to ask people to take you seriously or not to flame you? jesus christ, that should go without saying.

Sorry, but i'm not a fan of these young kids getting an EVO and it really makes me laugh when they say they are going to pay for everything themselves give me a break. My first 2 cars where major POS that I paid out of my pocket like 2 to 4 grand for and I can remember being in HS or college thinking man this car payment sucks and it was like 100 to 200 bucks a month. An EVO is a car you should build up to and pay your dues in my opinion to get it. I'm just 23 now, but have a degree and am active duty in the military, and some pretty damn good money management skills (we dont make alot)
. And at times I still find myself setting home on the weekends just so I can enjoy this car. Just a thought and to be general the average person probably pays atleast $600 out a month on there EVO and I know there is no way going to HS or college you can manage this without mommy & daddies help. So basically dont dream you can because you probably cant and sorry but I know you are not ready for this car no matter how mature you think you are.

There are many haters out there that will fu<k with your car just because you have an EVO. You may want to wait until you're out of high school to get it. Get something clean and nice to learn how to drive a stick. My sister bought an EVO because she liked mine (I keep mine in the garage and always park way far away from other cars) and 4 days later some punk knocked out her rear window and tried to break the wing.

And in this kids case he's still living with his parents and doesnt even have a drivers licence yet, so I still think its a horrible idea to hand someone this young the keys to something they are not going to apprecaite.

It's pretty stupid when at your guys time of age when you got your license, if you were any, if all interested in cars, that if you had the chance to get an Evo, wouldn't you just love it. But at your point of time currently, older, you guys probably would realize different. Thanks for the flames and thanks for the supporters.

This is probably proof of my maturity as a teen and a little sense how a car like the Evo will be treated if I had one.
My mom is willing to do this because I was willing to work my *** off all my life and obey to what she says, especially coming from an Asian background, I had to help her in her life to deal with translations to working the DirecTV. It may seem very spoil of me to get an Evo, but I'm trying my hardest to find the cheapest Evo. And from the insurance point of view, I am looking out for any student discounts or any other discounts to decrease my insurance.
Any comments welcomed and thanks for the past comments even the negative ones.
Update: I've been driving a 1997 Accord SE since October 25th, and not a bike.

Back in high school, I always thought that I was a slightly better driver and a more responsible person than others. It wasn't until I got a few more years of driving experience under my belt that I realized how horribly wrong I was. I never noticed before when in HS, but over the years, you start building up numerous "moments" that culminate into a realization that you've got a long way to go before you can consider yourself a good driver (e.g. a few knicks on the curb here, a few distracting moments that cause you to take your eyes off the road, *near* accidents due to momentary lapses in attention, etc.).
I'm dead set on getting an Evo, and my parents probably have the funds to help me do it too (mom owns a 2001 325xi), but I know that I could easily use more time behind the wheel in terms of sheer experience and I definitely need to get to a point in my life where I rely on my parents much less. As of now, I pay for my own college tuition, but there is no way I'd be able to afford an Evo by myself. I know for sure that if for some reason I had an Evo when I was 16, my driving record would be a pile of crap (let's start with the profiling issues so many people are having with cops), and I'd have a nice hole in my pocket due to maintenance and modding issues. I'll definitely get the Evo one day, but most likely not for a few more years at least.
As for the day that I eventually do get an Evo, my Camry will NOT be sold/traded-in. That slow, reliable POS is gonna get a maintenance overhaul so that one day when I have kids of my own, they'll drive the Camry as their first car as well. The day that my under-18 kid asks me if he can buy an Evo XVI (or whatever the hell it'll be), I'll be the first to smack him upside the head.
There's always exceptions to young drivers out there, and you might just be one of them, but don't ever be cocky enough to think that about yourself.
