Funny... on Nasioc they all rave about how great the STI seats are and how much the EVO seats suck.

Sounds like you should get an EVO.

a little bit comment from my friend who owns an STi and took a ride in my Evo.
Immediately after the session he said that he's going to change his Seat in the STi to something simillar to the Evo seat. this is what he said:
"Seats in Sti is much higher than the one in Evo, you feel like you are sitting on TOP of the car compare to sitting IN the EVO"

i want both. i drove a used '04 sti and i really liked the torque and ergos, but the steering feels confused and the seats suck..

i've driven stock and slightly modded evo's. i was really dissapointed with the stock evos power. but the modded one felt pretty good. the owner said 300 whp. way to loud though..

I have 20+ years of karting and formula car experience, so needless to say i liked the evos steering. I"m a picky mo fo when it comes to front end feed back. i wonder if i could get used to the sti.

can you get the evo to have close to the sti's bottom end? with still keeping it somewhat quiet.

sorry for yet another which car thread , i've done ALOT of reading on the subject. I guess i just had to vent, because for some reason the wife just doesn't want to hear about it anymore.

bug
STi is a better car overall. I have driven a stock STi & a stock EVO. Yes, your modded EVO probably feels fatser than the stock STi, but will it break soon? Who knows. WIll that crap stock clutch die soon? Maybe maybe not.

The EVO wins in seats & looks that is about it for me. Looks is personal preference though.

Get the STi

Now I will surely get flamed.

evo- leather seats( well mine anyway), AWESOME, the only thing that the sti has over the evo is cruise control.

as far as the clutch comment.. i have an '05, 8000+ miles, 30+ launches, stock clutch, no problems. free maintnence is awesome, i still give my car an oil change between the free maintnence sessions, but that's 'cause i think 5000 miles is a bit much between oil changes.

i drove my friend's STi, before and after it was modded (headers, TBE, UTEC/street tune, and some other random stuff) and i'll admit that my car felt a bit empty in the torque department in comparison, but i'll take my car over the sti any day, simply for the driving feel and the handling is not even worth comparing. BTW, my friend's car is leaking oil, seals are shot, his clutch is dying and there are problems in various parts of the engine... so the reliability issue is fairly subjective and it's safe to say it's more about how you drive, what you do to the car, and etc. etc.

btw, a guy in Evo-NY has "intake, boost controller, fuel pump, turbo back exhaust and a reflash. (and gauges, tv deck, ps2 etc...)" and is getting his car fixed under warranty. so even the warranty issues should be judged on a case by case basis.

or maybe both of these cars are actually pretty even and they both have their problems and their benefits and everything, EVERYTHING, including torque delivery, handling, steering response, top end, low end, engine noise etc. etc. are personal preference.

I think you need to drive the 05 sti. The 04 and 05 have significantly different steering feels. They made the 05 a lot better when it comes to steering feel. But agree that the seats suck.

I would go with the evo, i had to make the same choice myself. I just dont understand how you have bigger motor, more hp and torque, yet significantly slower than evo. i have raced several sti's and dont get me wrong been beat by them too, but as for getting out of the hole, evo owns all. Nothing like a car that runs 19psi from the factory and the engine is olskool, but proven. Everyone here says the clutch sucks in our car. The clutch is quite flimsy and a little weird driving it, but I have had no problems whatsoever. I'm sure people pushin out over say 320 awhp will for sure have problems with it, but I have 250 whp and drive the **** out of my car. I have launched it numerous times at 5500 rpm with the quick slip and have never smelt my clutch burning. The only time I have even seen a little trouble with it is on the dyno. It sure doesnt like 1500 rpm in 4th gear over and over. I would get in 3 runs and have to let it cool down for 15 min, but sti's do the exact same thing. Its all in how you drive it. My friend that works with me just bought an 05 sti and loves it. I ride in it all the time and YES the seats suck ***, especially the lumbar support, but the sti gauges are sooo much nicer. They have built in shiftlight fully adjustable, oil temp, water temp, and big rpm gauge. Evo has much nicer seats, better shifter feel, and a rear wiper which comes in quite handy when its raining and you need to see if thats a cop behind u. They are both 1 of a kind cars, the r32 doesnt even compare putting down 160 whp. Go with what you want, but I would highly recommend driving an evo with a few boltons. I drove my friends and that is what made my final choice. I also like the fmic much more than tmic.
