I'm going to freakin snap.. can't decide

i've been waiting 2 yrs now to buy a sti. then i drove a modded evo. yes i loved it. just got a new job and have the ok from the wife to buy a car in a month or so.

she wants the evo, she hates the sti.

i want both. i drove a used '04 sti and i really liked the torque and ergos, but the steering feels confused and the seats suck..

i've driven stock and slightly modded evo's. i was really dissapointed with the stock evos power. but the modded one felt pretty good. the owner said 300 whp. way to loud though..

I have 20+ years of karting and formula car experience, so needless to say i liked the evos steering. I"m a picky mo fo when it comes to front end feed back. i wonder if i could get used to the sti.

can you get the evo to have close to the sti's bottom end? with still keeping it somewhat quiet.

sorry for yet another which car thread , i've done ALOT of reading on the subject. I guess i just had to vent, because for some reason the wife just doesn't want to hear about it anymore.

evo...because your on an evo forum also because sti's get ALOT louder when they are modded out. so if evos loudness bothers you. you will hate an sti with a turbo back

yeah the sti rumbles all day with a TBE. My friend's sti is much louder then my car. i have a thermal catback, and the sti has a HKS cf ti. its loud as crap.

the only way you can get the same low end as the sti is to get a stroker kit. or mod so that you get the fastest spoolup 2.5" or 2.75" exhaust.

mine feels like a slug from idle - 3300rpms compared to my friend's STI. i try to stay outta boost and its annoying to have to downshift for things.

2.0 or 2.5L

yah gotta say the sti SOUNDS better. like i say to most of these posts, you can't go wrong with either car, theres just soo many factors you have to look at.. example, your height, if your 6'3.5" like me, you'll be crammed in the sti, but if yoru int he evo you have a lot of room.. just make sure you get some more testing with both of them or your gonna be posting " i hate my car " .. Good luck

i'm like you... the steering response and feed back was what won me with the evo... yes, the STi has the better oomph stock for stock, and especially in the downlow band... but, if you see what mods do for the Evo, you'll see how easy it is to make up that power quickly... and, when really really wringing out the evo on a track or twisty road, you'll be happier with the Evo due to the overall dynamics of the chassis/suspension... and you feel 100% comfortable when pushing the car to it's limits... no fighting, no finese, no fear... it communicates what's going on and what's about to happen, no guessing...

but, i can honestly say, it's tough to decide... I'd recommend either to anyone... but, if you're like me, and love the tight solid steering response and handling over the lil' edge of power, go Evo...

I had an STI, but traded it for an EVO after I test drove it. What sold me was the awesome feedback the car offers.

Hey, you wife hates the STI anyway, gotta keep her pleased right?

get the EVO you won't regret it.

I have had the chance to test drive both an Evo VIII and a Scooby STi... I have to say if I could ever talk the wife into letting me buy one, I would go for the Evo. (In my case, the wife had the final say to what car we got.... now look at what I'm driving, A Lancer OZ.... I should have put my foot down and demanded my Evo!)

thier are many things u can do to get the power and keep the sound down 2 u can always go with an exhaust with resinators (SP?) and a highflow cat etc.... but yeah like people are saying exhaust vs exhaust on either car the sti will b a LOT louder my buddy has a brand new 05 and i have a full helix turbo back which is the 2nd loudest i beleave and all he has done is take out a silencer thing in his intake.. and his is already loud not like mine but it sounds as if he has something on it lol and its stock

I've driven both, and chose the Evo hands down. Sti torque and power feel better, but that can be fixed a lot easier on the Evo than the Sti, and the Sti suspension will never feel like an Evo.

It all comes down to this....

Like I tell everyone... making up any kinds of power (bottom end, top end, etc) is easy and inexpensive... comparitive too....

Changing the handling of the STi to compare to the Evo? Next to impossible, if it is, VERY pricey and good luck.

You like the groundwork so much better in the Evo, you'll fit better in the car, and power is EASY to accomplish with it. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

By the way... considered the warranties of the two? Mitsu's warranty and FREE maintainence BLOWS subaru out of the water.

Man how tall are you? I took the Evo racing and my helmet barely fit in there and as a result after a slalom my helmet smacked against the inside of the car and I almost spun out. If you are tall I don't recommend the STi.
