With those mods he was probably only around 415 WHP. When they get into the pullies is when they start pushing the big numbers.

That's very impressive considering you were against a modified cobra. Those things like mods just as much as our cars do. Good job.

all of my friends are hard core mustang guys and 2 of them own 04 cobras.there are a couple of things that hold the 03-04 cobras back from being the meanest things around. the first is their horible irs rear end. i dont know what ford was thinking puting that in the car but they did. second is thier wopping curb wieght, tipping the scales at around 3,800 pounds (thats the coupes wieght). now of course put enough horse power and torque in anything and it will haul *** but i takes alot more for a 3,800 lb car with a realy big traction issue to get the same time as a 3,100lb with out standing traction. the 03-04 cobra does take mods veary well, one of my freinds is making 485whp with 492 ftlbs of torque with limmited money invested. also the 4.6l doch 32v iron block that ford runs in the car is extreamly strong and can easily handle close to 1,000 hp if tuned right. im sure your friends car was running lean and that caused the problem. as far as your car vrs a BONE STOCK cobra in the 1/4? i would have to go with the evo by a hair but i would like to know how it turns out

Kinda what I was thinkin. I love the Evo...but there are cars that will hand even a heavily modded Evo its ***. If the only thing you're worried about is beating everyone else out on the road...I think you have other issues to iron out first.

So just to see how we would do against eachother, we went to a secluded area and lined up.

Now i'm pushing 332whp and 343lb-ft torque (yes i have 272/272 cam setup)

I'm not gonna lie, i still have to practice my launching as I tended to bog out 3 of the 4 runs we did. (i'm also on a stock clutch)

Once we both launched, regardless of me bogging out, i put 1 car length on him right away, which he closed in by 4th gear he was right on my rear door and we stayed that way until 110mph where he just started walking on me and since my top end is weak he coulda put a few car lengths on me if we kept going.

The one time i did manage to get a perfect launch, i woulda beat him in a "quarter-mile" space, however again after about 110mph, he started walking on me. But the whole time before 110mph i was a full carlength ahead of 'em.

I hope this helps somewhat
That sound just about right.

I have basically a buschur stage 1.... with the fuel pump and a road tuned dyno flash... I dont see how you guys seem to think i will get beat by n 03 cobra... Buschur stage one is good for 12.8's in the 1/4 mile.... thats what a 03 cobe will run if the driver is perfect... The guy who said with a good driver a cobra will run 12.5's stock is on acid... that is not gonna happen... I can drive the hell out of my car.. I know almost for a fact that i willl own stock 03 cobes on the street..... I just bought uppper and lower ic piping, cold air intake, and mass air. I'm very confident that a stock cobra would not even be able to hang.... Have any of you ever drove a cobra before? They are not that impressive. If you like wheel spin then its the car for you.. cool burn out dude... haha

I'm not expert, but I have seen a bunch of Cobras run and I have yet to see a stock one run much under 13. They typically are in the mid to low 13s with one guy that runs 13.0.. IIRC. I would stay away from doing anything from a roll.

That being said, they are probably the easiest and cheapest car on the market to add 100 + hp to. I've seen a few with less than $2000 and a set of slicks run 11s.

Not true at all. If you haven't heard of the rear being a problem then you probably haven't been around too many people who drag race them. The minute you get wheel spin with the IRS you run into problems. Wheel hop is a huge problem for these cars. Let's face it, if the rear wheel hops and spins freely at 6K RPM then grips when it drops then it ain't going to be pretty. I know a couple of people in the 10s with their Cobras and they go through half shafts like they're going out of fashion. Most hardcore drag racers switch to a solid rear end.

first of all let's think of the evo and the cobra as two diffirent kinds of tools and lets use those tools for the right job. evo for twisties, "S" curves, loose pavements and "U" turns.........cobra for ruler straight strip of asphalt and concrete

I got sick of reading after about 10 posts, so I skipped the rest to post my opinion about the first topic. O.K. lets get realistic for a minute here people, there are too many variables on such a broad question of will a modded EVO beat a stock COBRA. The modifications the EVO has makes it a very comporable car to the STANG. It will always come down to the weather, road conditions, where the race starts (roll or stop), but most importantly the driver. I believe, which is only my opinion from what my car has and how it performs, the EVO has the advantage from a stop, and the COBRA might have the advantage from a roll. I am dissapointed in how many people believe the EVO doesn't stand a chance. Most of us are EVO owners here, so lets be a little more optimistic about our wonderful cars!

i remember i raced a 03 cobra a long time ago..not tha long though....he pulled up by me quick and we were doing atleast 120 in matter of seconds...i don't know if he was trying or what... i was ahead by about 3 feet...then my top end started to get weak and he pulled up right by me until we had to slow down in a 30 speed limit zone with loads of traffic...for some reason..he kept following me until i lost him on my street.. id say cobra are would be faster in the upper end...
