Oil Filter?

Hey guys, I'll be chaneing the oil in the evo tomorrow for the first time, I was wondering if anyone knows the part number for a oil filter, I seen a write up on and the part number is MZ690116, but l'm not sure if that's for my year, or does it matter, thanks.

When I went to change mine, Mitsu didn't even have it in stock. I ended up using a k&n filter from Napa.

Your MZ690116 number is correct but there are much better filters available for you car.. Do a search and you will see some great info here on this matter. Check out the Motorcraft and Wix products.

yeah the number is MZ690116, that is the exact same one wu will get if u buy one from a Mit. dealership. Funny my original OEM one had diff numbers, but i fould out why, cuz the original ones are usually made in Japan, but it seems ur was made in Thailand along with all the other ones the US gets. To answer ur question there is only one oil filter for the Evo so just go to the parts clerk and he will give u one for like $6.50. U will see on the box it has the same number. Thats weird that u have that number on ur original one cuz it should be diff. cuz these cars were made in Japan. oh well. And yes u can get like a K&N filter or better but the stock ones work almost the same. In my opinon u can never go wrong with stock.

Why would you want to use anything else? If Mitsu ships the car with one why change? I'm just curious.

from what i understand mitsu only has 2 oil filters so it shouldnt be a problem and stick with the oem filter. that is one less thing they can haggle you about for warranty work.

Alright thanks for the help, I just finished the oil change, stay with the oem oil filter, I noticed we don't have a min/max line, but we have 2 cuts, l'm at the second one, maybe just a tad bit by it, is that okay? I put 4qts and a little tab more then a half of on the 5th bottle.

A lot of stuff that is shipped w/ the car is for economy reasons, not necessarily because it is the best out there.

Name the stuff.

Mitsubishi has been using this oil filter from the mid 80's. I have never seen an oil filter related problem in over 10 years in this business. I would say that is a pretty good record.

yes the notches are your min and max mark.... but that is a good question. Are these motors very sensitive to over fills? I would say yes due to all the crankcase pressure. Anyone know?
