When I got my Evo I was excited that It came with HID's. How many of you love the BMW HID's? They are blue and puple. Coming down the road they change colors and are bright as hell. Well I was disappointed that our Evo's where not as bright. They are more white than blue. So I bought PIAA super cobalt HID bulb upgrade. D2S 12V 35W. What a difference!! Also changed the fogs to PIAA bulbs. Much better. Honestly It looks so much better.

as much as i like the bmw bluish purple color, the ones we have, which is below 7000 k toward 5000 to 6000 gives better visibility over the blue ones.

You have to remember, warmer colors are better on your eyes on long drives then colder colors or bluish white. and it lights up better for visibility.

changing the bulbs wont do anything good. By changing the bulbs, you lose alot of visibilty. The bmw's, lexus etc blue color is produced by the projector, not the bulb. Yeah, if you get a 6000k bulb, you will get bluer color, but you lose alot of light. ALL stock hid's use a 4100k bulb.

 

^^^what he said. Even thought they are nice looking, they dont perforn as well as our stock HIDs becuase when you start burning at higher temps than 4-5 K, you lose visibility. They are cool, but it's all about what your after...more attention or better overall performance.

 

Honestly my new Bulbs are brighter over all. Pulling the car into the garage, they lit up the garage better. Also the fog lights are brighter too. Both together work very well. I got the new PIAA HID bulbs for $340.00 for a pair. I will take pics tonight

 

damn 340!?!?! what temp rating are they? not sure which bulb the evo uses, but if anything you should have gone for some philips 4100k d2s, only run you 80 bucks shipped.

 

They are 6600K

 

piaa lasts longer and joined better with better fillet materials.

I also think from before, the 6000 k + is bit more expensive, because they put more or different gas inside the housing with the filament.

sylvania's got some decent ones as well for a good price.

our oem hid system will work with upgraded bulbs???

almost but not quite true, if youn look at older mercedes, you will see that they have a more purple output rather than a whiter one w/o a projector. only recently did everyone decide 4100k was the best legality wise.

 

I thought all HID bulbs didn't have a filament?


That's the same as stock, so it wouldn't be considered an upgrade. Where are you getting that price anyway? Quoted from the dealer, stock ones are $125/each.
