I'm almost positive if you have any codes on they will not pass you no matter what. Is there any way you can reset it for the emissions scan?

this sucks...
when it happened first time..i took it to the dealer...and they told me all they did was just reset the ecu. i thought resetting the ecu is just same as deleting the code from ecu....so i came back with some uncertainty...
well the po300 code came back again after few days....so i disconnected the battery to reset the ecu. but it came on again few days later.
so i called the dealer a couple of days ago..
and asked them if they had reflash available...and they said they reflashed my car when it came in the first time..so i asked if resetting and reflashing is the same thing and they said yes...
and the tech manager told do not ever disconnect the battery again because it will erase the whole program they put in already...
im confused...
so is resetting the ecu (which i thought it was just as same as diconnecting the battery) same as reflashing???? according to the tech at mitsu told me its same...

Pulling the battery cable does not reflash the ecu. All it does is clear your codes. The dealership is full of it saying that removing your battery cable would clear a flash. You said last time it took a couple of days before the code came back after you pulled the battery cable? If so remove the cable right before you go for the test and you should be fine that is what I would do. I know here in ohio if your check engine light is on you failed.

yeah..i dont think they reflashed my ecu in the first place..i think they just cleared it...cause pulling out battery cable shouldnt erase the program they put in...

It sounds like your service manager doesn't know what he is talking about. I doubt they flahsed your ECU. Check your paperwork from when you took you car in, it should say on there whether it was reflashed or not. If you want to spend the time to look at your ECU there should be a sticker on it from Mitsu indicating when the flash was done and that it was authorized by Mitsu. (at least I know I have this sticker on my ECU)

If it takes a couple days after clearing the code for it to come on again, just clear it by removing the negative battery cable before you go to the emissions place. That way you can at least get your car emissioned and registered and you can deal with the p0300 code later.
