April 05 Car and Driver
why don't they take in the Sparco Evo or Sun Auto one in their comp??? see how that turns out for them......
...and agreed, who cares what C&D thinks... pull the Evo out and let them play with STi's instead, and see how that works out for them... LOL...

I read the article today and was not impressed with C&D. I have been reading this mag for 20 years and felt that their review was factual but not complete. I am one of the Vishnu customers with flawless performance. I felt most of the issues were due to installation problems and weak factory parts. The O2 sensor being loose or the clutch going has nothing to do with the Vishnu parts. Any parts producing 100hp over stock can fry a stock clutch. How could the installation guys screw up the O2 sensor twice? This makes no sense. Also, the tuning issues doesn't jive either. The car must have been an Xede car for Pearce to bump up the fuel and and lower the boost. Why would he be doing this and not Shiv? There are tons of maps for the Xede. Why didn't C&D just call Shiv to send them a map? Or tweak the existing map. I am sure Shiv would do this for any customer.
Overall the only good thing about the article was the numbers generated by the standardized testing. I found the 5-60mph very interesting. The 5.5sec vs stock of 6.9sec. this is real world performance. I always look at this number. The cars with similar or close 0-60mph and 5-60mph are the fastest on the street. Least amount of talent required to extract performance. I guess this is area under the curve.

I agree, I mean what do you expect when you add 100hp to a car that has 40,000 miles on it. Of course it's going to need a little bit of tweaking, and since when does the stage 1+ come with a new turbo housing? was it the 10.5?
After reading the article, I've come to the conclusion that the C&D staffers associated with the article are a bunch of cry baby wussies. Harsh ride...anyone that has driven a high performance car (porsches, ferraris, corvettes, M3) will not have a problem with the Evo's ride. It's not that harsh, and the MR rides very well.
As far as the mod article is concerned, they really show that they are a bunch of idiots. 100 + plus horses on a well used and abused stock clutch and they don't expect failure? Wussies. The car was not unreliable, they were just assinine. This will be the last time I buy one of these fools magazine.

Jeez, who's being a cry baby wussy now?The EVO rides harder than even a ZO6 Vette.
To say it is NOT harsh is simply being blind to the facts.

Obviously you can't read very well. I never said the ride was not "harsh", what I was pointing out was the ride harshnes is in the same league as other high performance cars. The people at Car & Driver know this, but tend not to ***** and moan when they drive a 360 modena, or a 911.
^^ true, if the evo handles at the level of such cars as you mentioned, why shouldn't it ride like one? C&D, Don't be fooled by the sedan appearance...at heart it's a rally car!

Look at the MR. Even Mits can get better performance AND a better more compliant ride. But, it costs more doesn't it?
You implied that it isn't as harsh as the cars you mention. Yes, it is and it actually has a harsher ride than some of the cars you mention.
It's obvious I don't read so good.

Finally got to read it, what a difference from our staff. Our long-term Evo never sat in our garage and it went on many long trips. I do think Shiv unfairly got the short end of the stick on that article. Yes a brand new clutch was installed right before their testing, but many of the problems they experienced, short of the clutch, seem to be more from the installation and not from any of the parts installed.
That, and it seems like they didn't do a fair amount of research before putting in the parts, and knew what to expect on the output.
I'm sure they would have been wise to come at least over to this site, and do even a simple search and find more useful information on what to look out for, and expect from a Stage 1+. Rather they tried to solo it, got ticked, and wrote about it in a light to let potential EVO buyers get a false impression of upgrading an EVO.
I don't care if they got a bad taste in their mouth over the 25 hour NASA race, it wasn't like in my mind that their Caterham 7 really did anything better. If Car & Driver personally can't take racing like the rest of us, then I perhaps don't need to purchase and hear all about their "holier than thou, because you don't have enough money for a $60k+ car" biased reports from their publication.
But hey ... at least I can give them the thumbs up in doing a long-term test on the EVO.

While I personally am not a huge fan of Vishnu products - I have observed that they work find and there are NONE of these kind of issues that they reported in C & D on 99.99 % of Vishnu set up evos.
What C & D has accomplshed with this over dramatized baby like nit picking is scare away "normal" evo owners who might have otherwise benefitted from some revelant data on how to modify evos and what kind of performance can be gained from simple bolt on parts and flash or piggy back tuning.
To me its sad that there will prob be people out there who read this article and then they will be scared to modify their evo - meanwhile there are thousands of other evos out there which are modified and which have no issues or problems what so ever.
My additude id if you run into some minor set backs when modifying your car you fix the problems and get ready to enjoy your new found increased power.
I just find this whole story very regretable.

The Evo's ride is harsh and unrefined when compared to say, a GT3, which I have had the opportunity to drive recently. But, it's apples and oranges. 105,000 car vs. 30, 000 car. If you are looking for an all around car, a highly modified, or even a stock evo is not a joy, in my opinion. If it was not my goal to become the best driver on a track that I can be, I would not own an Evo. In fact, I'm shopping for a daily driver as we speak. But, that said, I LOVE the car, for it's potential (in my slow hands, potential) and proven prowess (in the hands of many faster drivers) on the track. C&D was looking at the Vishnu car, and Evos in general, in a more wholistic manner, not as Evo enthusiasts.
